The Best Cordless Stick Vacuums for Pet Hair of 2026
Six cordless sticks that lift embedded fur from carpet, rugs and furniture, from a budget Levoit to Dyson's flagships.
We may earn a commission when you buy through links on this page. Our editorial rankings are maintained separately from retailer relationships.
Pet hair is a harder test than ordinary dust. Fur weaves into carpet pile, wraps around brushrolls and floats back into the air when a vacuum's filtration is weak. A cordless stick that handles it well needs strong pickup, a head that resists tangles and a bin you can empty without a mess.
We compared six sticks across independent lab results, manufacturer specs and owner feedback. The lineup covers a budget pick, a mid-priced carpet specialist, an auto-empty model and three Dysons for heavy shedders and allergy-sensitive homes.
No single vacuum is best for every home. Your flooring, how much your pet sheds and how much you want to spend will decide which of these fits.

Compare two picks side by side
Shark IP3251
Strong carpet pickup and a dock that empties itself
Full product review →
A dual-brushroll cordless stick with a MultiFlex wand and an auto-empty base. It pairs strong pet hair pickup with HEPA filtration and a long warranty.
Why we like it
In TechGearLab's 20-model test, the IP3251 posted the best high-pile pet hair result at 74% and 84% on low pile. That makes it a good fit for homes with rugs and carpet as well as hard floors.
The auto-empty dock is the other draw. Shark says it holds up to 45 days of debris, so you rarely touch the fur. TechGearLab rated its emitted air quality Excellent, the battery is detachable, and the warranty is five years.
What to know
Skip it if you have long-haired pets and hate cutting hair off rollers, or want the lowest price. Fur still wraps the rollers.
Pros
- Best high-pile pet hair result in TechGearLab's test
- Auto-empty dock with HEPA filtration
- Detachable battery
- 5-year limited warranty
- Excellent emitted air quality in TechGearLab testing
Cons
- Hair and fur wrap around the rollers
- Front bumper limits head-on edge cleaning
- Motorized upholstery tool sold separately
- Charge time is about 4.7 hours

Dyson V15 Detect
The lab favorite for pet hair, with a Dyson tool kit
Full product review →
Dyson's laser-illuminated stick with a de-tangling Digital Motorbar head and a dust sensor. It suits heavy shedders on mixed floors.
Why we like it
RTINGS names it the best cordless vacuum for pet hair it has tested. TechGearLab measured 88% on low pile and 60% on high pile and named it Best Premium Cleaner.
TechGearLab saw some longer hair wrap, but says the roller is easy to free. The battery is removable, and Dyson sells a genuine replacement.
What to know
Skip it if you need long runtime on max power or HEPA-rated filtration. TechGearLab measured 9 minutes at max and does not mark it as HEPA.
Pros
- Top pet hair pickup scores from RTINGS
- 88% on low-pile pet hair
- Full Dyson tool kit
- Removable battery
- Easy-to-clear roller
Cons
- 9 minutes at max power
- 60% on high pile

Levoit LVAC-300
A budget stick that handles light-to-moderate shedding
Full product review →
A low-cost cordless stick with a tangle-resistant brushroll, a mini motorized pet tool, HEPA filtration and a swappable battery.
Why we like it
TechGearLab named it Best on a Budget. It picked up 78% of low-pile pet hair and ran 16 minutes at max power, tied for the longest among these picks. Its small-particle count of 41 was second-best in the group.
The quick-release brushroll makes clearing wrapped hair easy, and the mini motorized tool handles stairs and furniture.
What to know
Skip it if you have thick carpet or a heavy shedder. It is weaker on shag and high pile, and the small bin fills quickly.
Pros
- Much cheaper than the other picks
- 16 minutes at max power
- Quick-release brushroll
- Mini motorized pet tool
- Swappable battery and HEPA filtration
Cons
- Weaker on high pile (54%)
- Long strands still wrap
- Small bin for heavy shedders

Dyson V16 Piston Animal
Dyson's biggest bin and strongest motor for large homes
Full product review →
Dyson's 2026 flagship, with a 315 AW motor, an anti-tangle head and a 1.32 L compacting bin. It is aimed at big homes with heavy shedders.
Why we like it
Vacuum Wars says the Animal is essentially the same vacuum as the Submarine apart from the wet head, so TechGearLab's Submarine data applies. It measured 94% on low-pile pet hair, the best of 20 models, and 16 minutes at max power. Vacuum Wars measured 15.3 minutes and found a fully sealed HEPA system.
The CleanCompaktor bin means fewer dusty empties.
What to know
Skip it if weight or price is a concern. It is heavy, and tangle results are mixed: TechGearLab saw no wrap, but Vacuum Wars' long-hair test scored just below average.
Pros
- 94% on low-pile pet hair
- Longest max-power runtime among the Dysons
- Largest compacting bin at 1.32 L
- Sealed HEPA system
- Removable battery
Cons
- Heavy
- 56% on high pile
- Premium price
- Mixed tangle results

The cleanest exhaust and top low-pile pickup, at a premium
Full product review →
Dyson's flagship stick, with whole-machine sealed HEPA and a de-tangling Motorbar head. It is built for allergy-sensitive pet households.

It had the lowest small-particle count in TechGearLab's emitted-air test (37, lower is better), which fits Dyson's claim of capturing 99.99% of particles down to 0.1 micron. TechGearLab measured 90% on low pile and 62% on high pile, and ranked it top overall. Reviewed named it Best Cordless Vacuum for Pets.
RTINGS gives it 8.5 for pet hair on furniture, the best here.
What to know
Skip it if you want long runtime or a light machine. It ran 7 minutes at max power and weighs about 7.6 lb in total (5.0 lb handheld).

- Lowest small-particle count in the group
- 90% on low-pile pet hair
- Best furniture pet hair score here
- Sealed HEPA filtration

A Shark stick with a DuoClean PowerFins HairPro head, auto-boost and an odor-neutralizer cartridge. It suits carpet-heavy pet homes.
Why we like it
TechGearLab measured 74% on low pile and 64% on high pile. The high-pile figure beats the Gen5detect, V15 and V16. RTINGS scores its pet hair pickup 7.3, and Vacuum Wars ranks it second for pet hair.
Amazon sells it directly at a mid-range price.

How we review cordless vacuums
PickMetric's picks come from research across independent tests, manufacturer specs and owner feedback. Main sources were TechGearLab's lab tests, RTINGS, Vacuum Wars, Reviewed, Bob Vila and manufacturer pages. Each product was scored on seven weighted criteria: pet hair pickup (30%), hair-tangle resistance (15%), value (15%), versatility and pet tools, battery and runtime, ease of use and maintenance, and filtration, safety and repairability (10% each).
Pickup carries the most weight because it is the reason you are buying. Tangle resistance and ease of use matter because a vacuum that clogs with fur or needs constant emptying gets used less. Every pick was then challenged in a structured review before publication, and the scores were revised where the evidence was thin.
How We Picked
We started with 12 cordless sticks and narrowed them using TechGearLab's measured pet hair removal on low and high pile, RTINGS scores, Vacuum Wars rankings, Reviewed and Bob Vila picks, and manufacturer specs. Products without a current listing or independent pet hair data were dropped.
Every pick was then challenged in a structured review. That changed the lineup in concrete ways. The Dyson V16's tangle score was lowered, and its Best for Long-Haired Pets award dropped, because two sources disagreed on hair wrap. The Shark IP3251's pet hair and tangle scores were also cut after TechGearLab confirmed hair wraps its rollers, and the ranking was reordered to match the weighted scores.
What to Look For
Pickup on your floor type
Low-pile and high-pile results differ a lot. The V16 leads on low pile at 94%, while the Shark IP3251 and Stratos lead on high pile. Match the vacuum to the surface you clean most.
Tangle resistance
No stick fully avoids hair wrap. Look for a quick-release or removable brushroll so clearing takes seconds.
Bin size and emptying
Heavy shedders fill small bins fast. An auto-empty dock or a large compacting bin means fewer trips and less dust.
Runtime and battery
Max-power runtime in tests ranged from 7 to 16 minutes. A removable battery lets you extend runtime or replace it later.
Pet tools
A motorized upholstery tool pulls fur from couches and stairs. The Levoit includes a mini motorized tool, while Shark's is sold separately for the IP3251.
Health, Materials & Safety
Filtration matters in a home with pets. Sealed HEPA systems keep fine dust and dander in the machine instead of the air. TechGearLab's emitted-air test found the Dyson Gen5detect had the lowest small-particle count (37), followed by the Levoit (41), the V16 (51) and the V15 and Stratos (55). The Shark IP3251 was rated Excellent for emitted air.
On battery safety, the CPSC issued a 2024 warning about non-compliant third-party Dyson batteries. Genuine replacements are sold by Dyson, Levoit and Shark, so stick with those. We found no CPSC recalls for the Dyson or Shark cordless sticks or for Levoit vacuums.
Warranty varies: Shark offers five years on the IP3251, while Dyson's V15 and Gen5detect carry two. The Stratos's odor-neutralizer cartridge is scented, and Shark does not disclose its ingredients.
Other Cordless Stick Vacuums for Pet Hair We Considered
Shark PowerDetect IP1251: it shares the IP3251's head, and RTINGS scores it 7.5 for pet hair, but it had no current Amazon listing.
Dyson V11: out of stock on Amazon until November and without current measured pet hair data. RTINGS rates the V15 above it on furniture pet hair.
Dyson V12 Detect Slim: its 0.35 L bin is too small for heavy shedders.
Shark Vertex Pro IZ662H: an older model that tested lower than the Stratos.
Levoit LVAC-200: TechGearLab gave it only 5.1 out of 10 for pet hair, so the LVAC-300 is the better budget choice.
Tineco Pure One A90S: no independent pet hair or runtime data.
FAQ
Which cordless stick is best for pet hair overall?
The Shark PowerDetect Clean & Empty IP3251 offers the best mix of carpet pickup, auto-empty convenience and warranty. The Dyson V15 Detect has the strongest lab reputation for pet hair if you can pay more.
Do cordless vacuums handle thick carpet?
Some do. The Shark IP3251 and Stratos had the best high-pile results in TechGearLab's data. Budget sticks like the Levoit are weaker on shag.
Will pet hair tangle the brushroll?
Yes, on every model to some degree. Quick-release brushrolls and anti-tangle heads make it easier to clear.
Is HEPA filtration worth it for pet owners?
It helps keep dander and fine dust inside the vacuum, which matters for allergy-sensitive households. The Gen5detect had the cleanest exhaust in TechGearLab's test.
Should I buy from a marketplace seller?
For the Dyson models, the Amazon offers are from third-party sellers. Compare prices from Dyson and Best Buy, and confirm warranty coverage before you buy.
How long do these run on a charge?
Max-power runtime in tests ranged from 7 minutes for the Gen5detect to 16 for the Levoit and V16. Lower power modes last far longer.
Bottom line
For most pet homes with a mix of rugs and hard floors, the Shark PowerDetect Clean & Empty is the best balance of carpet pickup, hands-free emptying and warranty. Choose the Levoit LVAC-300 if budget matters most, the Dyson V15 Detect for heavy shedding, and the Gen5detect if cleaner exhaust outweighs price and weight. Whichever you pick, check that the seller is reputable and that the battery is genuine when you replace it.
