The Best Electric Pressure Cookers with Stainless (Non-Coated) Pots of 2026
Five electric pressure cookers with uncoated stainless steel inner pots, ranked by independent test results, build and value.
We may earn a commission when you buy through links on this page. Our editorial rankings are maintained separately from retailer relationships.
Most electric pressure cookers ship with a nonstick-coated pot that wears over time. A stainless steel pot has no coating to chip, sears and browns better, and goes in the dishwasher. The trade-off is that food can stick if you skip the right technique, and starchy or seared foods can need scrubbing.
This guide covers electric pressure cookers whose food-contact pot is uncoated stainless steel. We ranked five models on pressure-cooking results, sauté heat, ease of use, pot construction, versatility and value.
One limit up front: independent testing of stainless-pot electric cookers is dominated by Instant Pot, so every pick here is from that brand. We left out untested brands rather than guess.

The best-tested stainless-pot cooker for typical households
Full product review →
A 10-in-1 6-quart multicooker with a dishwasher-safe, uncoated stainless inner pot that has grip handles. It runs at 1200 W and includes a slow-cook mode.
Why we like it
America's Test Kitchen rates the Pro 6 Qt Highly Recommended and described its pressure cooking as stellar and its sauté as excellent. Food Network also recommends it. Spec sheets show 1200 W, 10 functions, 28 programs and a dishwasher-safe stainless pot with handles.
A note on ranking: ATK's overall winner is the 8 Qt Pro, which is the higher-performing model. The 6 Qt takes Best Overall for typical households because it fits more kitchens and costs less.

- Uncoated stainless inner pot with grip handles
- Dishwasher-safe pot
- 1200 W of power
- Ten functions including slow cook
- Sold by Amazon and Target

Instant Pot Duo 7-in-1 6 Quart (IP-DUO60)
The cheapest proven stainless-pot pressure cooker
Full product review →
A best-selling 6-quart multicooker with an uncoated 18/8 stainless steel inner pot. It offers slow-cook, pressure, sauté, rice and yogurt modes plus a programmable timer.
Why we like it
The Duo is the lowest-priced tested stainless-pot cooker in this guide, and Food Network names it Best Overall. ATK rates it Recommended with Reservations, but found it browns well. It also offers low and high pressure.
The pot is 18/8 stainless with a tri-ply bottom and is dishwasher-safe. For basic pressure cooking, rice, beans and soups, it covers the essentials.
What to know
Skip it if you want slow cooking or a smooth, simple lid. ATK's stew was still raw after eight hours on slow cook, and the lid can be hard to lock.
Pros
- Uncoated 18/8 stainless pot with no coating to wear
- Independent XRF non-detect for lead and cadmium on an Instant Pot stainless insert
- Closest low-setting temperature to the ideal range in TechGearLab's testing
- Dishwasher-safe insert and programmable timer
- Replacement stainless pots sold separately
Cons
- Lead test was brand-level, not of this exact model
- Tall, narrow pot; meat did not always fall apart in testing
- Silicone sealing ring can hold odors
- Stainless contains about 8% nickel

Instant Pot Pro 8 Qt (113-0044-01)
ATK's overall multicooker winner, built for big batches
Full product review →
A 1400 W, 8-quart, 10-in-1 cooker with an uncoated stainless pot, handles and low and high pressure. It suits large families and meal preppers.
Why we like it
ATK named the Pro 8 Qt its overall multicooker Winner, saying it excels at nearly every multicooker task. Testers praised the flat bottom for even searing, the stay-cool pot handles and the safer pressure-release switch.
At 1400 W with 28 programs, it is the strongest-tested stainless-pot model here.
What to know
Skip it at full price. ATK tested it near $150, and Amazon currently charges considerably more, so wait for a sale. Also skip it if you cook for one or two.
Pros
- ATK's overall Winner
- Flat bottom sears evenly
- Stay-cool handles
- Safer release switch
- Low and high pressure
Cons
- Weak at slow-cooking large cuts
- No true sous vide
- Pricey at current Amazon price

Instant Pot Duo Plus 9-in-1 6 Quart (WhisperQuiet)
Quieter steam release plus a sous vide setting
Full product review →
A 9-in-1 6-quart multicooker with an uncoated 18/8 (304) stainless inner pot and tri-ply bottom. It adds a WhisperQuiet steam release plus sterilize and egg programs.
Why we like it
TechGearLab named the Duo Plus V4 its Best Overall in a November 2024 roundup, scoring user friendliness 10 out of 10. Reviewed calls it best for most people and says the steam release is as quiet as advertised, though its tester used an earlier version of the model.
The WhisperQuiet release and an OK-to-open-lid prompt help in apartments and open kitchens.
What to know
Skip it if you want the lowest price. It costs well above the Duo, and testers found the pot harder to clean.
Pros
- Uncoated stainless pot with tri-ply bottom
- WhisperQuiet steam release
- Extra programs such as sterilize and egg
- Dishwasher-safe insert and programmable timer
- Sold directly by Amazon
Cons
- No model-specific lead test
- No independent slow-cook test
- One owner reported pitting on the pot after cleaning
- An optional nonstick pot is sold separately; avoid it for a coating-free setup

Instant Pot RIO Mini 4 Qt (140-8006-01 black; 140-8003-01 truffle)
A small stainless-pot cooker for one or two
Full product review →
An 800 W, 4-quart, 7-in-1 cooker with an uncoated stainless pot. It is built for singles, couples and small kitchens.
Why we like it
Reviewed evaluated the Rio Mini as a 4-quart model for two to four servings, and Tom's Guide picked it as a budget option. The pot and lid are dishwasher-safe.
It is a size-driven choice. The 6 Qt Duo costs about the same and is the better buy unless counter space matters.
What to know
Skip it if you cook for more than two or want strong searing. Reviewers report a slow sauté preheat and loud venting, and the footprint is not much smaller than full-size models.
Pros
- Compact 4-quart capacity
- Uncoated stainless pot
- Dishwasher-safe pot and lid
- Budget-friendly
- Color options
Cons
- Slow sauté preheat
- Loud steam release
- No pot handles
- Footprint not much smaller than full-size models

How we review pressure cookers
PickMetric's picks come from research across independent tests, manufacturer spec sheets and owner feedback. We drew on America's Test Kitchen, Food Network, Reviewed, TechGearLab and Tom's Guide, plus manufacturer pages and live retailer listings. We evaluated 14 products and kept only those with an uncoated stainless food-contact pot.
Scoring weighted cooking performance most (25 percent), then ease of use and value (20 percent each), pot and build quality (15 percent), and versatility and health and materials (10 percent each). Cooking results and sauté heat matter most because a stainless pot has to brown well to justify itself. Every pick was then challenged in a structured review before publication.
How We Picked
We started with 14 electric pressure cookers and drew on America's Test Kitchen, Food Network, Reviewed, TechGearLab and Tom's Guide, plus manufacturer specs and live Amazon listings. Only models with an uncoated stainless food-contact pot qualified.
We weighted cooking performance, ease of use and value most. Each pick was then challenged in a structured review, and that review changed the lineup. The Rio 6 Qt was dropped because ATK found its sauté underpowered and the Duo costs less and has low pressure, so the Duo took Best Value. The Pro Plus was dropped for lack of a readable independent test and its high price.
The review also corrected how we describe ATK's ratings: its overall Winner is the Pro 8 Qt, while the Pro 6 Qt is Highly Recommended. The 8 Qt's value score was lowered because of its current price.
All picks are Instant Pot, because independent testing of stainless-pot electric cookers is dominated by that brand.
What to Look For
Pot construction
Look for 18/8 stainless steel with a tri-ply bottom, which spreads heat better for sautéing. Handles make lifting a hot pot safer, and the Pro models have them.
Capacity
Six quarts suits households of up to six. Choose 8 quarts for batch cooking and large families, and 4 quarts only for one or two people.
Pressure levels and power
Low and high pressure give you more control for delicate foods. Higher wattage generally means faster sauté preheat and stronger searing.
Slow cooking and extras
In ATK's tests, slow cooking was weak across these Instant Pots. If you slow cook often, buy a dedicated slow cooker. Sous vide is available on the Duo Plus only.
Noise and cleaning
A quiet steam release helps in small homes. Stainless pots can stick, so use enough liquid and deglaze after sautéing. Most pots are dishwasher-safe.
Health, Materials & Safety
Every pick uses an uncoated stainless steel inner pot, so there is no nonstick layer to wear off. That is the main reason to choose stainless over a coated pot.
All five are UL and ULC listed, according to Instant Pot. Instant Pot's chemical disclosure page says products across its range may contain PFAS without naming specific parts, and the brand does not market its cookers as PFAS-free. If that matters to you, read the disclosure page before buying.
Replacement stainless inner pots are sold separately for some models, which helps if a pot is lost or damaged.
Other Electric Pressure Cookers with Stainless (Non-Coated) Pots We Considered
Instant Pot Rio 6 Qt
ATK rates it the same as the Duo but found its sauté underpowered. The Duo costs less and has low pressure.
Instant Pot Pro Plus 6 Qt
We found no readable independent test, and it is priced at a premium.
Instant Pot Duo 8 Qt
Out of stock on Amazon, and ATK found its stew underdone after nine hours.
Instant Pot Duo Crisp 6.5 Qt
ATK reported an error code and mushy beans, and Reviewed found uneven air frying.
Other models
The Duo Mini 3 Qt and Rio Wide 7.5 Qt lack independent test coverage. The Pro Max has no Amazon listing or independent tests. The Midea MPC6002SBSK and Yedi GV001 were left out for lack of independent testing.
FAQ
Is a stainless steel pot better than a nonstick one?
It depends. Stainless has no coating to wear out and browns well, but food can stick if you use too little liquid. Nonstick is easier to clean but wears with time.
Can I use metal utensils in a stainless pot?
Generally yes, since there is no coating to scratch. Check your manual.
Is the Pro 6 Qt or Pro 8 Qt better?
The 8 Qt is the higher performer and ATK's overall Winner. The 6 Qt is the better fit and price for most households.
Which is the best cheap option?
The Duo 6 Qt. It has low and high pressure and browns well, though slow cooking is poor.
Are Instant Pots good slow cookers?
Not in ATK's tests. Slow cooking was rated poor on the Pro 6 Qt and Duo, and large cuts were weak on the Pro 8 Qt.
Why are all the picks Instant Pot?
Independent testing of stainless-pot electric pressure cookers is dominated by Instant Pot, and we did not recommend untested brands.
Bottom line
For most households, the Instant Pot Pro 6 Qt is the best stainless-pot pressure cooker: strong tested pressure cooking, a handled pot and low and high pressure. If you cook for a crowd, the Pro 8 Qt is the higher performer, ideally bought on sale. If budget rules, the Duo 6 Qt does the core job for much less. Choose the Duo Plus for quieter venting and the Rio Mini only when counter space is the deciding factor.
