The Best Heated Mattress Pads of 2026

From a low-cost dual-control workhorse to a wire-free heating and cooling system, here are the heated mattress pads worth considering this winter.

We may earn a commission when you buy through links on this page. Our editorial rankings are maintained separately from retailer relationships.

A heated mattress pad warms the bed before you get in and keeps it warm all night, usually for far less energy than heating the whole room. The catch is that pads vary a lot in how hot they get, how evenly they heat, how they feel under a sheet and how they are built.

We narrowed 14 pads to seven. The lineup runs from a budget Sunbeam that testers keep coming back to, to waterproof and cotton-top options, a king-size favorite, a low-voltage DC pad, a wire-free water system and a specialist for odd bed sizes.

One note up front: most pads here use standard 120V AC wiring. If reducing in-bed electrical fields matters to you, the picks near the bottom of the list are the ones to look at, and we are clear about how much evidence backs each.

#1 Best Overall

Sunbeam Restful Quilted Heated Mattress Pad (Queen, 12-setting, digital dual controllers)

The proven, low-cost dual-control pad most couples should buy

Full product review →
6.1 /10
Sunbeam Restful Quilted Heated Mattress Pad, Queen
Lowest verified price $59.87 at Amazon

A quilted heated pad with 12 heat settings, two digital controllers on queen and king, and a selectable shut-off of up to 12 hours. It fits mattresses up to 18 inches deep and carries a 5-year warranty.

Why we like it

This pad has the most direct testing behind it. Mattress Clarity named it Best Dual Control and called its 1–12 range one of the largest heat ranges it has tested, with setting 12 described as extremely warm and toasty. Mattress Nerd named it best value, and a long-term user at Reviewed kept rebuying it.

It also covers the basics well: separate controls for each side, an auto shut-off you can set up to 12 hours, a deep pocket and a 5-year warranty, all at a budget price.

What to know

Skip it if you want cotton against your skin, a waterproof layer or any EMF-reduction design. The top is polyester and the wiring is standard 120V AC.

Pros

  • Largest heat range among the pads here, per testers
  • Two digital controllers on queen and king
  • Selectable shut-off up to 12 hours
  • 18-inch pocket and 5-year warranty
  • Budget price, machine washable

Cons

  • Polyester top
  • Standard AC wiring with no EMF claim
  • Top settings run very warm
  • Some owners report slow heat-up and a loose fit on very thick mattresses

#2 Best Value Upgrade (Cotton Top, Water-Resistant)

Sunbeam Premium Water Resistant Restful Quilted Heated Mattress Pad (Queen, MSU6SFS-T000-11A00 per reseller listings)

Sunbeam's step-up pad adds a cotton top and spill protection

Full product review →
5.9 /10
Sunbeam Premium Water Resistant Restful Quilted Heated Mattress Pad, Queen
Lowest verified price $92.76 at Amazon

A 100% cotton quilted top over a water-resistant layer, with 12 settings, dual controllers, a 12-hour selectable shut-off and a 5-year warranty. It stays under the cost of most waterproof rivals.

Why we like it

For a modest step up from the Restful Quilted, you get natural fiber against your skin and protection from spills. The feature set otherwise matches the cheaper pad, including dual controls and a long warranty.

Bob Vila named a closely related 10-setting cotton-top water-resistant Sunbeam its Best Overall, and testers found it toasty. That test was of a sibling model, not this exact listing, so treat it as supporting evidence rather than a direct test.

What to know

Skip it if you need a truly waterproof protector or want the most thoroughly tested option. Bob Vila's sibling test unit also arrived wet and stained.

Pros

  • 100% cotton top
  • Water-resistant layer
  • 12 settings and dual controllers
  • 5-year warranty
  • Well below the price of the Serta waterproof pad

Cons

  • Water-resistant, not waterproof
  • Evidence comes from a sibling model
  • Some units run both controllers on one cord
  • Listings vary on settings count and certification

#3 Best Waterproof (Premium)

Serta (Olliix) Serta Waterproof Heated Mattress Pad (Queen, dual controller)

The premium choice when the pad must double as a waterproof protector

Full product review →
5.8 /10
Serta Waterproof Heated Mattress Pad, Queen, Dual Controller
Lowest verified price $139.99 at Amazon

A waterproof heated pad with 10 settings per side, a 1–12 hour timer, overheat protection and ETL listing. It carries a 5-year warranty.

Why we like it

Bob Vila tested it directly and praised its excellent water resistance and stain-repellent finish. Testers found it warmed fast and evenly, adjusted within a couple of minutes and dried in a single cycle. Mattress Clarity picked it as best queen, and Forbes Vetted also recommends it.

It is sold as waterproof rather than merely water-resistant, and it is the one pick in the main group with a confirmed ETL listing.

What to know

Skip it if you don't need waterproofing. It costs well above the Sunbeams, and the top is polyester-dominant (80/20 poly-cotton).

Pros

  • Truly waterproof
  • ETL-listed with overheat protection
  • Fast, even heating in testing
  • Dries in one cycle
  • 5-year warranty

Cons

  • Premium price
  • Polyester-dominant fabric
  • Short cord
  • Pocket depth varies across listings

#4 Best for King Beds

Beautyrest (Olliix) BR55-0201 Cotton Blend Heated Mattress Pad

A cotton-blend, UL-listed pad that suits king beds

Full product review →
5.7 /10
Beautyrest Cotton Blend Heated Mattress Pad with Secure Comfort Technology
Lowest verified price $91.99 at Amazon

A 60/40 cotton-poly quilted pad with 5 heat settings, preheat, a 10-hour shut-off and two controllers. It has a UL listing and a 5-year warranty.

Why we like it

Mattress Clarity picked it as best king, and Bob Vila called it its best luxury pick. The cotton-blend top feels more upscale than all-polyester pads, and it combines a UL listing with preheat and dual controls.

This award applies to the King, which Amazon sells directly. The queen is sold at Walmart at a slightly higher price.

What to know

Skip it if you want fine heat control. It has only 5 settings, and Bob Vila found the controllers hard to read in the dark. Its Secure Comfort low-EMF wiring is a manufacturer claim with no published measurements.

Pros

  • Cotton-blend top
  • UL listing
  • Preheat and dual controllers
  • 5-year warranty
  • Mid-priced

Cons

  • Only 5 settings
  • Hard-to-read controllers in the dark
  • EMF claim is unmeasured
  • Needed several low-heat dryer cycles to dry

#5 Best Low-Voltage DC Pad (Unreviewed)

Navien Navien Mate EME-511 CarbonCore

The only in-stock low-voltage DC pad here, but unreviewed

Full product review →
5.5 /10
Navien Mate EME511 Far Infrared Heated Mattress Pad, Queen
Lowest verified price $367.00 at Amazon

A 24V DC carbon-wire pad with 1°F control from 82–122°F, independent left and right zones, a 15-hour timer and overheat monitoring. It has a 2-year warranty.

Why we like it

It is the one pad in this guide that runs its in-bed wiring on 24V DC, which is a disclosed design fact and directly relevant to buyers who want to minimize in-bed electrical fields. The specs are also strong: fine-grained temperature steps and fully independent zones.

Every detail comes from Navien. We found no independent review, and its 2-minute heat-up figure is from its own internal testing.

What to know

Skip it if you want proven performance or a listed safety certification. We found no ETL or UL listing for this model, no EMF measurements, and it costs far more than the Sunbeams from a third-party Amazon seller.

Pros

  • 24V DC low-voltage wiring
  • Independent dual zones
  • 1°F control from 82–122°F
  • 15-hour timer
  • Machine washable

Cons

  • No independent reviews
  • No safety listing found for this model
  • Premium price from a third-party seller
  • Only a 2-year warranty

#6 Best Heating & Cooling (No Wires in Bed)

Sleepme (Chilipad) Chilipad Cube (CP500 series)

A cooling-first water system that also heats, with no wires in the bed

Full product review →
6.0 /10
Chilipad Cube Bed Cooling & Heating System
Lowest verified price $629.10 at Amazon

A bedside unit circulates heated or cooled water through tubing in the pad, from 60°F to 115°F. There are no heating wires in the sleep surface.

Why we like it

This is the strongest wire-free design in the guide. Mattress Nerd made it its top pick, and Bob Vila named it best for heating and cooling. If you want year-round temperature control and no heating wires under you, nothing else here does it.

The listed ASIN is a single-zone Half Queen. A dual-zone queen needs two units, roughly double the single-unit price.

What to know

Skip it if you only want a warm bed. It is cooling-first, Bob Vila found it slow to heat, the pump hums, and the bedside unit still runs on AC power.

Pros

  • No heating wires in the pad
  • Heats and cools
  • Mattress Nerd and Bob Vila recommend it
  • Wide temperature range

Cons

  • Very expensive, especially for two zones
  • Slow to heat
  • Pump noise and distilled-water upkeep
  • 1-year warranty

#7 Best for Unusual Mattress Sizes

Electrowarmth M60FLD Queen Two Controls

The specialist for short, long and Olympic queens and other odd sizes

Full product review →
4.9 /10
Electrowarmth M60FLD Queen Dual Control Heated Mattress Pad
Lowest verified price $262.99 at Amazon

A US-made pad sold in about 20 size and control combinations, with 10 settings, separate plugs per side, ETL approval and overheat shut-down.

Why we like it

Mainstream pads don't fit RV beds, short queens or Olympic queens. Electrowarmth does, and the maker offers service after the warranty. Mattress Nerd named it best range of sizes, and Sleepopolis picked it as its Made in USA choice.

It is ETL-approved and remembers its last setting.

What to know

Skip it if you have a standard bed. It costs several times what the Sunbeam does, has a 1-year warranty, a shallow 13-inch pocket and less even heating.

Pros

  • About 20 size and control options
  • ETL approval
  • Overheat shut-down
  • Service after the warranty

Cons

  • Expensive
  • 1-year warranty
  • 13-inch pocket
  • Top may slide, bunch or heat unevenly

Our process

How we review heated blankets

PickMetric's picks come from research across independent tests, manufacturer specs and owner feedback. For this guide that meant reviews from Bob Vila, Mattress Clarity, Mattress Nerd, Reviewed, Sleepopolis and Forbes Vetted, plus manufacturer pages, retailer listings and owner reports. Each candidate was then challenged in a structured review before publication.

We scored six criteria: EMF reduction (25%), warmth and heat control (20%), health and materials (15%), electrical safety and reliability (15%), value (15%) and comfort and washability (10%). Claims without measurements or certification earn little credit, and products with no independent coverage are labeled as such. Prices are described in relative terms because they change often.

How We Picked

We started with 14 heated pads and gathered evidence from independent tests, manufacturer specifications, retailer listings and owner reports. Sources included Bob Vila, Mattress Clarity, Mattress Nerd, Reviewed, Sleepopolis, Forbes Vetted, Sleep Foundation and the manufacturers. We checked current Amazon stock before publishing, which removed several otherwise reasonable pads.

Each pick was scored on EMF reduction, warmth and heat control, health and materials, safety and reliability, value, and comfort and washability. A structured review then challenged every pick.

That review changed the lineup. Best Overall was originally the Sunbeam Premium, but its main evidence came from a sibling model, so the title moved to the Restful Quilted, which Mattress Clarity tested directly. The Navien's scores were also cut because its claims come only from the manufacturer, and it is now labeled unreviewed.

What to Look For

Heat range and controls

More settings give finer control. Dual controllers matter for couples, because one person's comfortable setting is often too hot for the other. Preheat and a selectable auto shut-off are useful extras.

Fit

Check your mattress depth against the pocket. Most pads here fit up to 18 inches, but the Electrowarmth pocket is 13 inches. Odd sizes such as short queens need a specialist.

Fabric and waterproofing

Cotton and cotton blends feel better against skin than all-polyester tops. Water-resistant is not the same as waterproof, so choose waterproof if leaks are a real concern.

Safety listing and warranty

ETL or UL listing, overheat protection and auto shut-off are worth having. A 5-year warranty is a good sign of confidence.

EMF design

Most pads use standard 120V AC wiring. Low-voltage DC and water-circulation systems are different designs, but they cost far more. Marketing claims of low EMF without measurements should not drive a purchase.

Health, Materials & Safety

Fabric is the most practical difference. The Sunbeam Premium has a 100% cotton top, the Beautyrest is 60/40 cotton-poly, and the Sunbeam Restful Quilted and Electrowarmth are polyester. None of the picks show an OEKO-TEX certification on the listings we reviewed.

The waterproof and water-resistant layers on the Serta and Sunbeam Premium are not described in detail by their makers.

For safety, the Serta, Beautyrest and Electrowarmth carry ETL or UL listings. We could not tie a specific safety listing to the Sunbeams or the Navien EME511. Whatever you buy, check the cord and plug periodically, don't fold or bunch the pad while it is on, and replace any pad with scorched spots or damaged wiring.

Buyers who care about in-bed electrical fields have two real options: the Navien (24V DC wiring) and the Chilipad (no wires in the pad, with an AC bedside unit). Neither maker publishes independent EMF measurements. The Beautyrest's low-EMF wording is a manufacturer claim.

Other Heated Mattress Pads We Considered

Several pads were left out because they were out of stock when we checked, including the Beautyrest 100% cotton 20-setting pad, the Biddeford quilted pad, the Degrees of Comfort DC55-0071 and the Woolrich sherpa pad. Owners of the Biddeford report controller error codes, and Woolrich owners report a cold strip.

The Perfect Fit SoftHeat is also unavailable, and owners report the maker went bankrupt with no warranty support.

The Sealy heated pad has no independent testing, and we could not verify its OEKO-TEX certificate. The Bedsure pad has an all-polyester top and no independent recommendation, and the Sunbeam Restful Quilted is cheaper and better proven.

FAQ

Are heated mattress pads safe to leave on all night?

Most have auto shut-off and overheat protection. Use a model with a safety listing, follow the manufacturer's instructions and set the shut-off timer you prefer.

Can I wash a heated mattress pad?

All the electric pads here are machine washable. Detach the controllers and follow the care label. The Chilipad has a different build and is warm-wash only.

Do I need dual controls?

If two people share the bed, yes. Dual controls let each side be set separately.

Is a waterproof heated pad worth the extra cost?

Only if you need protection against leaks or spills. Otherwise a Sunbeam is cheaper.

Should I pick a low-EMF heated pad?

If that matters to you, the Navien and Chilipad take different approaches. Both cost far more than standard pads, and neither has independently published EMF measurements.

Do heated pads fit deep mattresses?

Most fit up to about 18 inches. Measure first, and check the pocket depth if your mattress has a thick topper.

Bottom line

For most people, the Sunbeam Restful Quilted is the right place to start: well tested, dual-control, widely available and inexpensive. Step up to the Sunbeam Premium for a cotton top and spill protection, or the Serta if you want a fully waterproof pad. Choose the Beautyrest for a king bed, the Electrowarmth for an unusual size, and save the Navien and Chilipad for buyers who specifically want to limit in-bed wiring and accept the cost.
