The Best Non-Toxic Rice Cookers (Stainless Inner Pot) of 2026
Six rice cookers with an uncoated stainless inner pot, from a budget Aroma to a premium Buffalo induction model, ranked on rice quality, materials, cleanup and build.
We may earn a commission when you buy through links on this page. Our editorial rankings are maintained separately from retailer relationships.
Most rice cookers use a nonstick-coated inner pot. If you want food to touch bare metal instead, your options narrow quickly. Only a handful of cookers currently in stock have a stainless pot with no coating at all.
We compared 17 candidates and kept six. They range from a budget Aroma with a steam tray to a premium Buffalo induction cooker, plus one multicooker for buyers who want a single appliance. Each has a stainless food-contact surface and no pot coating.
Stainless is not a free pass. Rice sticks more in an uncoated pot, and some picks are heavier on build quality than on rice performance. We say where each one trades off.

Buffalo KW-BSC18 (KWBSC18-II)
A heavy clad stainless pot, no coating and a 3-year pot warranty
Full product review →
A 10-cup dedicated rice cooker with Buffalo's multi-layer clad stainless inner pot. It has White, Brown, Porridge and Soup programs plus Keep Warm.
Why we like it
It is the only in-stock dedicated rice cooker here that pairs an uncoated multi-layer clad pot with family capacity. Buffalo describes the pot as having no chemical coating. The inner pot carries a 3-year warranty, longer than most rivals offer.
The program list is also broader than Aroma's one-touch cookers, with separate White, Brown, Porridge and Soup settings. Mamavation's Best tier names the 5-cup Buffalo Classic, and this 10-cup model is the same line in a larger size.
What to know
Skip it if you want a guaranteed easy-release pot or a simple purchase. Buffalo's US site is not taking orders, and the Amazon offer comes from a third-party seller.
Pros
- Uncoated multi-layer clad stainless pot
- 3-year inner-pot warranty
- White, Brown, Porridge and Soup programs plus Keep Warm
- Family-size 10-cup capacity
Cons
- Owners report slow cooking and some sticking
- Mixed owner feedback, with some preferring a Zojirushi
- Premium price for a non-induction cooker
- Sold through a third-party seller while Buffalo's US site is not taking orders

Aroma Housewares ARC-757-1SG
A large 304 stainless pot and steam tray at a budget price
Full product review →
A 14-cup cooked (7-cup uncooked) Aroma cooker with a 304 stainless pot and a stainless steam tray. Operation is one-touch with automatic Keep Warm.
Why we like it
Aroma states the pot is 100% food-grade 304 stainless steel with no coating. For a budget price you get large capacity and a steam tray, and it is sold directly by Amazon.
In Prudent Reviews' multi-cooker test, Aroma did better on rice than the Instant Pot. Mamavation's Best tier lists the sibling Select Stainless -SG models; this -1SG version differs mainly by the included tray.
What to know
Skip it if you want a heavy pot or a long warranty. The pot is thin, and the warranty is one year on the whole unit.
Pros
- Uncoated 304 stainless pot
- Large 14-cup cooked capacity
- Stainless steam tray included
- Budget price, sold by Amazon
Cons
- Thin single-ply pot
- Rice can crust on the bottom, especially on Warm
- 1-year warranty
- No delay timer or digital controls

Aroma Housewares ARC-753-1SG
A small uncoated 304 cooker with a steam tray, for very little
Full product review →
A 3-cup uncooked (6-cup cooked) Aroma cooker with a 304 stainless pot and stainless steam tray. It is simple and one-touch.
Why we like it
It suits singles, couples and dorm rooms. Aroma lists a 100% food-grade 304 stainless inner pot, and the tray lets you steam vegetables over the rice. It is the lowest-priced pick in this guide.
Aroma sells replacement pots for roughly the price of a takeout meal, which softens the thin-pot durability concern. The tray-less ARC-753SG that Mamavation's Best tier covers is out of stock, and this is the same cooker plus a tray.
What to know
Skip it if you cook for more than two or three people, or want a heavier pot.
Pros
- Uncoated 304 stainless pot
- Lowest price in the lineup
- Steam tray included
- Compact footprint
- Inexpensive replacement pots
Cons
- Rice can stick, as with other uncoated Aroma pots
- Thin single-ply pot
- 1-year warranty
- No timer or program options

Instant Pot Duo 7-in-1 6 Quart (IP-DUO60)
Not a rice cooker, but a stainless-pot multicooker that can make rice
Full product review →
A best-selling 6-quart multicooker with an uncoated 18/8 stainless steel inner pot. It offers slow-cook, pressure, sauté, rice and yogurt modes plus a programmable timer.
Why we like it
If you would rather own one appliance than two, the Duo offers an uncoated stainless pot, dishwasher-safe cleanup and a very wide feature set. Instant Pot lists the pot as 18/8 stainless with a tri-ply bottom, and it sells at a mid price.
Rice is the weak spot. Prudent Reviews found a one-cup white rice batch uneven, wet and mushy in one area and dry and slightly undercooked elsewhere. Rice also stuck more and needed soaking. Tom's Guide likewise found dedicated cookers more consistent.
What to know
Skip it if rice is your main use. Confirm you are buying the stainless-pot model, because Amazon also sells a ceramic-coated Duo.
Pros
- Uncoated 18/8 stainless pot with no coating to wear
- Independent XRF non-detect for lead and cadmium on an Instant Pot stainless insert
- Closest low-setting temperature to the ideal range in TechGearLab's testing
- Dishwasher-safe insert and programmable timer
- Replacement stainless pots sold separately
Cons
- Lead test was brand-level, not of this exact model
- Tall, narrow pot; meat did not always fall apart in testing
- Silicone sealing ring can hold odors
- Stainless contains about 8% nickel

Buffalo BUFFALOIH10 (IH Smart Cooker 1.0L)
Induction heating and a delay timer with an uncoated clad pot
Full product review →
A 900 W induction rice cooker with a 5-cup Buffalo Clad stainless pot, a 24-hour delay start and 12-hour keep-warm.
Why we like it
It is the only induction cooker in this lineup with an uncoated pot. Buffalo describes the clad pot as made from Japanese cladding materials with no chemical coating. Digital controls and the delay timer add convenience that the other picks lack.
Buffalo states a lifetime inner-pot warranty. Both Mamavation and Sustainably Kind Living recommend this cooker.
What to know
Skip it unless induction and the timer are worth a large premium. Availability is through a third-party seller.
Pros
- Uncoated Buffalo Clad stainless pot
- Induction heating, 900 W
- 24-hour delay start and 12-hour keep-warm
- Manufacturer-stated lifetime pot warranty
Cons
- Very expensive for 5 cups
- Little independent performance data
- The only offer is from a third-party seller
- Outer unit warranty is shorter than the pot's

Buffalo KW-BSC10 (KWBSC10-II)
The same Buffalo clad pot and warranty in a 5-cup size
Full product review →
A 5-cup Buffalo Classic with the same uncoated multi-layer clad stainless pot and 3-year inner-pot warranty as the 10-cup.
Why we like it
This is the exact Buffalo Classic size that Mamavation's Best tier names. It offers the heavier clad pot and long pot warranty in a size suited to couples.
Compared with Aroma's small cooker, the pot is heavier and the pot warranty is three times as long.
What to know
Skip it if budget matters. It costs much more than Aroma's small cooker, and it is sold through a third-party Amazon seller.
Pros
- Uncoated multi-layer clad stainless pot
- 3-year inner-pot warranty
- Size suits couples and small households
Cons
- Steep price for 5 cups
- Sticking until your technique is dialed in
- Included steamer basket feels cheap, one reviewer found
- Third-party seller only

How we review rice cookers
PickMetric's picks come from research across independent tests, manufacturer spec sheets, owner reviews and non-toxic product roundups such as Mamavation and Sustainably Kind Living. We did not cook with these products ourselves. Every pick was then put through a structured review that challenged its evidence and scores before publication.
We scored six criteria. Rice quality carries the most weight (30%), because a pot that scorches or cooks unevenly defeats the purpose. Health and materials, sticking and cleanup, build and warranty, and value each carry 15%. Features and versatility carry 10%. Only products with a coating-free pot and current availability were considered.
How We Picked
We started with 17 candidates and drew on independent reviews, manufacturer spec sheets, owner feedback, and non-toxic roundups from Mamavation, Sustainably Kind Living and Lead Safe Mama. We did not cook with these products ourselves. We kept only models with a coating-free stainless pot that are currently in stock.
Every pick was challenged before publication, and the review changed the lineup. The Instant Pot was moved down and relabeled as a multicooker alternative, and its materials score was lowered because the only lead test we found covered a different Instant Pot model. Rice-quality scores for the Buffalo models were capped because no independent rice test exists, only mixed owner reports. A wrong retailer link for the 5-cup Buffalo was also removed.
No independent lab has tested rice quality on most of these cookers, so treat rankings as a reasoned judgment from the available evidence.
What to Look For
Pot construction
A single-ply stainless pot, like Aroma's, is thin and can scorch. A multi-layer clad pot, like Buffalo's, is heavier and built to spread heat more evenly. Check whether the pot is described as uncoated, and look at its warranty.
Stainless grade
304 (18/8) is the common food-grade stainless. Some makers, including Buffalo, do not disclose the core metal in a clad pot.
Sticking and technique
Rice sticks more to bare metal than to nonstick. Rinse the rice well, use the manufacturer's water ratio, and let it rest 10 to 15 minutes on Keep Warm before scooping. A crust on the bottom is common with uncoated pots.
Capacity
Cooker capacity is quoted two ways: uncooked cups or cooked cups. Aroma's 14-cup model is 14 cups cooked, about 7 uncooked. Buffalo's 10-cup is 10 uncooked.
Features
Delay timers, brown rice programs and induction heating cost more. A steam tray is useful if you cook vegetables or fish over rice.
Lid, seals and cord
The pot is only part of the cooker. Lids, gaskets and cords may include plastic or silicone. Look for clear material disclosure from the brand.
Health, Materials & Safety
Every pick here has a bare stainless food-contact surface, which means no nonstick coating in the pot. That is the main reason a buyer would choose this category.
Buffalo describes its pots as having no chemical coating, and Aroma describes its pots as 100% food-grade 304 stainless. Both are manufacturer statements, and Buffalo does not name the core metal in its clad construction.
The Instant Pot has an 18/8 stainless pot, but the silicone sealing ring touches steam, and Instant Brands says its products may contain PTFE, PFA or FEP without saying which parts. Lead Safe Mama's XRF testing covered a Pioneer Woman Instant Pot, not the Duo. In that unit the painted heating element read 443 ppm lead, while the stainless vessel, valve and enamel showed no lead. That result should not be assumed to apply to the Duo.
If you want the simplest materials story, pick a dedicated stainless cooker and check for a coating-free pot. We did not find lab testing for the lids, cords or heating elements of the Buffalo or Aroma models.
Other Non-Toxic Rice Cookers (Stainless Inner Pot) We Considered
Tatung all-stainless cookers (TAC-06KN, TAC-11KN, TAC-06IN): The all-SUS304 indirect-steam design is ideal for this focus, since the pot never touches the heater and the electronics are minimal. Every model we found is out of stock or discontinued, so none made the list. The TAC-6G-SF also has an aluminum outer pot.
Aroma ARC-753SG and ARC-757SG: Same cookers as our Aroma picks without the steam tray. The 753SG is out of stock, and the 757-1SG costs only slightly more than the 757SG.
Buffalo IH Smart Cooker in titanium grey: Out of stock, and its listed capacity conflicts with Buffalo's own specifications.
Elite Gourmet ERC-2010 and ERC006SS: The 2010 is out of stock and carries a Prop 65 lead warning. The ERC006SS has little independent evidence, and its 10-cup sibling carries a lead warning.
Joydeem DFB-D300: Its 316L stainless claims come from marketing only, there is no independent testing, and the inner lid has a plastic rim.
Instant Pot Pro 6 Qt: The same stainless-pot benefits as the Duo at nearly twice the price. The extra functions do not improve rice, and Tom's Guide found the Pro fell short of a dedicated rice cooker for white rice.
FAQ
Are stainless steel rice cookers really non-toxic?
They avoid nonstick coatings in the pot, which is the main concern for most buyers. Lids, seals and cords are still made of other materials, so the whole cooker is not necessarily free of every concern.
Why does rice stick in a stainless pot?
Bare metal grips starch more than nonstick. Rinse the rice, use the right water ratio, and let it rest on Keep Warm for 10 to 15 minutes before scooping. Soaking the pot after cooking makes cleanup easier.
Is the Instant Pot good for rice?
It works, but testers found results less consistent than from a dedicated rice cooker. Buy it if you want a multicooker. Make sure you choose the stainless-pot model, because a ceramic-coated Duo is also sold.
What is the difference between clad and single-ply stainless?
Single-ply is one layer of stainless and is thin. Clad pots have multiple bonded layers, which makes them heavier and better at spreading heat. Buffalo uses clad pots, and Aroma uses single-ply.
Can I buy Buffalo directly from the maker in the US?
At the time of writing, Buffalo's US site was not taking orders, and the Amazon offers come from a third-party seller. Check stock and the seller before you buy.
Is a steam tray worth having?
If you steam vegetables or fish, yes. Both Aroma picks include a stainless tray.
Bottom line
If you want a heavy, uncoated pot and a long warranty, the Buffalo Classic 10-cup is the best fit, as long as you accept third-party availability and some technique for avoiding sticking. If budget matters more, the Aroma 14-cup and 6-cup cookers give you a 304 stainless pot and a steam tray for much less. Choose the Instant Pot only if you want one multicooker, and the Buffalo induction model only if you want a delay timer and premium electronics without a coating. Whichever you buy, let the rice rest on Keep Warm before scooping.
