The Best Quiet Air Purifiers for Bedrooms of 2026
Eight bedroom purifiers compared on what matters at night: measured noise, how much clean air they move while staying quiet, and whether they leave you in the dark.
We may earn a commission when you buy through links on this page. Our editorial rankings are maintained separately from retailer relationships.
A bedroom purifier has to do two jobs that pull against each other. It needs to move enough air to matter, and it needs to do it without keeping you awake. Many models advertise a whisper-low decibel number that applies only to a speed that barely moves any air.
This guide ranks eight purifiers with that trade-off in mind. We weighted independently measured noise and the airflow delivered at roughly 45 dB or less above brand claims, then looked at sleep features such as light sensors and dimmed displays, ionizer behavior, and what the filters cost to keep running.
The top pick is the Coway Airmega Mighty2, with the Levoit Vital 200S-P close behind for shoppers who want a smart, lower-priced option. If you have a large primary suite or a very small room, the picks below cover those cases too.

Coway Airmega Mighty2 AP-1512N
The most quiet airflow among ionizer-free mid-size purifiers
Full product review →
The Coway Airmega Mighty2 is a standard-room option for buyers seeking a mechanical-filtration workflow.
Why we like it
HouseFresh's lab review measured 35.9 dBA in Sleep mode, about 99 cfm at 38.1 dBA on speed 1, and about 151 cfm at 42.6 dBA on speed 2. That speed-2 result is the most quiet airflow among the ionizer-free mid-size picks here. The Levoit Vital 200S-P managed 128 cfm at 41.9 dB.
Coway removed the ionizer found on the original Mighty, and the unit draws about 2.5 W in Sleep mode. Spec sheets list a washable pre-filter plus a combined carbon and HEPA filter that is replaced about once a year.
What to know
Skip it if you want app control or the lowest year-one cost. HouseFresh calls it the most expensive mid-size unit to buy and run in the first year. This pick rests on one independent lab source.
Pros
- Standard-room workflow
- Mechanical-filtration path
- Distinct exact-model corroborating sources
Cons
- Current ownership conditions require publication-time confirmation
- No cross-publisher quietness ranking is made

Levoit Vital 200S-P (LAP-V201S)
A smart, ionizer-free purifier that dims itself at night, for less
Full product review →
A mid-priced Levoit with app scheduling, a light sensor and a washable pre-filter plus HEPA and carbon. It suits an average bedroom.
Why we like it
HouseFresh measured 38.3 dB on low and about 128 cfm at 41.9 dB on speed 2. That is enough for a typical 150 to 250 sq ft bedroom, a little less than the Mighty2 moves at similar noise.
Testers back up its night behavior. Reviewed says the light sensor shifts it into a quieter night mode with lower fan speeds and a dimmed display, and calls sleep mode virtually silent. RTINGS says the display turns off in dark rooms and that VeSync app schedules can lower speeds overnight. It has no ionizer.
What to know
Skip it for a large bedroom. Its 250 cfm rating applies only at a loud 57.7 dB, and quiet-speed airflow is much lower.
Pros
- Display turns off in the dark
- App scheduling
- No ionizer
- Mid-priced
- Sleep mode described as nearly silent by Reviewed
Cons
- About 128 cfm below 45 dB
- Top speed is loud at 57.7 dB
- Draws up to 50 W

Blueair Blue Signature Large (SP4i)
The most quiet airflow of the group, with an ionizer you can't turn off
Full product review →
A furniture-style Blueair cylinder that doubles as a side table, with a laser PM2.5 sensor and app control.
Why we like it
HouseFresh measured 34.8 dB in sleep mode and 35.3 dB on S1. On S2 it moved about 229 cfm at just 40 dB, the most quiet airflow among these picks. Tom's Guide names it best overall in its air purifier roundup.
It suits a large primary bedroom where a smaller unit would have to run louder.
What to know
Skip it if you want to avoid ionizers in a closed bedroom: HouseFresh says it cannot be disabled. It is also expensive, with filters costing about $180 a year.
Pros
- 34.8 dB in sleep mode
- About 229 cfm at 40 dB
- Large coverage
- App control and PM2.5 sensor
- Doubles as a side table
Cons
- Ionizer cannot be turned off
- Premium price
- About $180 a year in filters
- Tabletop surface scratches easily

Winix 5530
A carbon-pellet filter for bedrooms with cooking, smoke or pet odors
Full product review →
An app-connected Winix with a washable pre-filter, a carbon-pellet stage and True HEPA, rated for 392 sq ft.
Why we like it
Its carbon-pellet stage is more substantial than the thin carbon sheets in most rivals, and it costs less than most picks here. RTINGS' bedroom guide names it the best bedroom purifier for most people.
The PlasmaWave ionizer can be switched off and is CARB-certified.
What to know
Its rank reflects limited quiet-speed airflow data, not a tester verdict. Published RTINGS figures put it near 32.4 dBA on low and around 122 cfm below 45 dBA, but we did not have measured sub-45 dB airflow to match the Vital. Owners of earlier Winix models report the ionizer turning back on after a power loss.
Pros
- Carbon-pellet filter for odors
- Switchable, CARB-certified ionizer
- App control
- Lower price
- Large coverage rating
Cons
- Loud at max, about 60.7 dBA
- Quiet-speed airflow less established
- Ionizer may re-enable after power loss on earlier models

Blueair Blue Pure 211i Max
High-CADR large-room option without an always-on ionizer
Full product review →
A Quiet Mark-certified Blueair with a 435 cfm smoke CADR, app control and a Night mode.
Why we like it
The 435 cfm smoke CADR, rated for 674 sq ft, leaves headroom for a large bedroom at low speed. Night mode runs the lowest fan speed with lights fully dimmed.
It costs roughly $90 less than the SP4i. RTINGS comparison data gives about 33.9 dBA on low. Retailers state it is CARB-certified and Zero Ozone Verified.
What to know
Skip it for a small bedroom, where it is oversized. Independent noise data is thin: the 33.9 dBA and 58.7 dBA max figures come from RTINGS comparison data and HouseFresh has not tested it.
Pros
- Large CADR headroom
- Night mode with dimmed lights
- Zero Ozone Verified per retailers
- Cheaper than the SP4i
- App control
Cons
- Limited independent noise testing
- Oversized for small rooms
- Loud at max, about 58.7 dBA
- Premium price

Dyson HushJet Purifier Compact HJ10
A 24 dB Sleep mode and filters you replace about every five years
Full product review →
Dyson's compact bedroom purifier with a star-shaped nozzle, app control and a sealed electrostatic plus carbon filter.
Why we like it
Tom's Guide measured 24 dB in Sleep mode and picks it as its quiet bedroom choice. The sealed filter is rated for five years, so there are no annual filter purchases.
It suits a small bedroom up to its 203 sq ft rating.
What to know
Skip it if you need real cleaning power. Airflow at the 24 dB setting is not measured, we found no AHAM CADR, and it reaches 60 dB at max.
Pros
- 24 dB in Sleep mode per Tom's Guide
- Filter rated for 5 years
- App control
- Low running cost
Cons
- Only 203 sq ft coverage
- No published CADR
- Loud at top speed, 60 dB
- Expensive for its coverage
- Bulky for a nightstand per TechRadar

Levoit Core 300-P
The budget pick for small bedrooms and kids' rooms
Full product review →
A compact, inexpensive Levoit cylinder with a three-stage filter and a sleep mode, listed as ozone-free with no ionizer.
Why we like it
HouseFresh's review of the Core 300 (same body as the 300-P) measured 37.1 dB in sleep mode and 50.2 dB at top speed. It has a sleep mode with the display off and costs well below the other picks.
It works in a bedroom of about 220 sq ft or less.
What to know
Skip it for anything larger. HouseFresh says owners will likely need speed 2 or higher for a room of about 200 sq ft, which is louder than sleep mode. Vesync's True HEPA settlement covers Core filters bought 2019 to 2023; Vesync denies wrongdoing.
Pros
- Budget price
- 37.1 dB in sleep mode
- No ionizer
- Compact
- Low running cost
Cons
- Low airflow
- Needs higher speeds to clean a 200 sq ft room
- No app
- Named in the Vesync filter settlement

Windmill Windmill Air Purifier (975 sq ft model)
Built-in white noise and a minimalist look for a small bedroom
Full product review →
A design-led purifier with a lights-off Whisper mode, a 47 dB White Noise mode, app control and proprietary filters.
Why we like it
The Whisper mode turns the lights off, and the White Noise mode gives sleepers a steady sound. Tom's Guide measured 38.4 dBA on low against a 37.7 dBA background.
It is rated for 202 sq ft and Windmill lists ETL, Energy Star, AHAM Verifide and CARB certifications.
What to know
Skip it if you care about performance per dollar. CADR is a modest 130 cfm and filters are proprietary, needing replacement about every six months. The only Amazon offer is a third-party seller, so consider buying from Windmill directly.
Pros
- White Noise mode
- Lights-off Whisper mode
- Minimalist design
- App control
- Multiple certifications listed
Cons
- Modest 130 cfm CADR
- Filters every six months
- Among the costliest to own
- Amazon offer is third-party

How we review air purifiers
PickMetric's picks come from research across independent lab tests and published reviews (HouseFresh, RTINGS, Tom's Guide, TechRadar, NBC Select, Bob Vila, Reviewed), manufacturer spec sheets and owner feedback. We did not test the units ourselves. Each pick then went through a structured review in which it was challenged on evidence, scoring and price before publication.
Scores used six criteria: noise at sleep-usable speeds (30 percent), cleaning performance for a 150 to 400 sq ft bedroom (20 percent), sleep-friendly features (15 percent), value (15 percent), health and materials (10 percent) and running cost (10 percent). Noise carries the most weight because a purifier that is too loud to run overnight does no good. We looked at airflow at around 45 dB or less, not the top-speed CADR that appears on the box.
How We Picked
We started with 14 candidates and compared independent measurements from HouseFresh, RTINGS and Tom's Guide, reviews from TechRadar, NBC Select, Bob Vila and Reviewed, manufacturer specs, and live retailer listings. We did not test the units ourselves.
Every pick was then challenged before publication. Two changes mattered most. First, the Levoit Vital 200S-P was first scored on its 250 cfm top-speed rating. HouseFresh's data showed it delivers about 128 cfm at 41.9 dB, so its cleaning score was cut and it moved down. Second, the Coway Mighty2, which HouseFresh measured at about 151 cfm at 42.6 dBA, was promoted to the top spot.
The Winix 5530 was also moved down. Its quiet-speed airflow is not as well documented, so it was scored conservatively even though RTINGS names it a top bedroom pick. Its position reflects missing detailed evidence, not a tester verdict.
The top pick rests on one independent lab source, HouseFresh. We would update this guide if a second test appears.
What to Look For
Noise at the speed you will actually use
Sleep mode is the quietest setting, but it often moves little air. Look at measurements for a middle speed that stays under about 45 dB, and the airflow delivered there.
Room size and airflow
For a 150 to 400 sq ft bedroom, a mid-size unit running on a low or medium speed usually works. A small unit rated for 200 sq ft will need higher speeds in a room that size. A large unit can stay on a lower speed in a big room.
Light and sleep features
A display that turns off in the dark, a dedicated night mode and a timer all help. Check how the unit behaves in auto mode: some force Sleep mode when the room is dark, which may not suit you if you want more cleaning at night.
Ionizers
Some purifiers include an ionizer. Prefer one that is absent or can be switched off, especially in a closed bedroom.
Filter cost
Filters range from a one-time five-year design to proprietary ones replaced every six months. Over several years this can outweigh the purchase price.
Health, Materials & Safety
Ionizers are the main point to weigh for a bedroom. The Coway Mighty2, Levoit Vital 200S-P and Levoit Core 300-P have none. The Winix 5530 has a PlasmaWave ionizer that can be switched off and is CARB-certified, though owners of earlier Winix models report it re-enabling after a power loss. The Blueair SP4i has an ionizer that HouseFresh says cannot be disabled. The Blueair 211i Max is listed by retailers as CARB-certified and Zero Ozone Verified.
The Dyson HushJet uses a sealed electrostatic filter plus carbon, rated for five years, which means less filter waste. The Windmill's six-month filters create more.
Vesync, Levoit's parent, settled a class action over True HEPA labelling for Core series filters bought 2019 to 2023 and denies wrongdoing. This applies to the Core 300-P in this guide.
On energy, the Mighty2 draws about 2.5 W in Sleep mode and up to 56 W at max. The Vital 200S-P is rated at 50 W and the 211i Max at 46 W.
Other Quiet Air Purifiers for Bedrooms We Considered
Coway Airmega Mighty (AP-1512HH): the original, superseded by the Mighty2, which costs a little more, removes the ionizer, adds a Sleep mode and has measured quiet airflow.
AirFanta 3Pro: HouseFresh measured 213 cfm at 43.3 dB, a strong result. It is unavailable until November 11, 2026, from a third-party seller, and users report counterfeit listings. We will revisit it after the restock.
Blueair Blue Pure 311i+ Max: currently out of stock.
Alen BreatheSmart 45i: currently out of stock and expensive.
Coway Airmega 100: low airflow and no independent noise data.
Levoit Core Mini-P: too weak for a bedroom.
HouseFresh also lists DIY-style and specialty units such as CleanAirKits and Smart Air models with strong quiet-speed airflow. We left them out because we could not settle pricing and availability.
FAQ
How quiet should a bedroom air purifier be?
Most people sleep fine with a purifier at about 35 to 40 dB or lower. Many testers use around 45 dB as the upper limit for a speed you can tolerate.
Is sleep mode enough to clean the air?
Often not in a larger room. Sleep mode moves the least air. Running a purifier on a low or medium speed before bed, then letting it drop, is a common approach.
What size purifier do I need?
For 150 to 400 sq ft, a mid-size unit such as the Mighty2 or Vital 200S-P fits. Small rooms under about 220 sq ft can use the Core 300-P. Large suites suit the Blueairs.
Should I avoid purifiers with ionizers?
If you want to be cautious in a closed bedroom, choose a model without one or with one you can turn off.
Do quiet purifiers cost more to run?
Not necessarily, but filter costs vary a lot. The Mighty2 uses a yearly filter, the Windmill uses six-month filters, and the Dyson's is rated for five years.
Do light sensors help?
Yes, if they turn the display off in the dark. Be aware that some, like the Mighty2's Smart mode, also force Sleep mode in dark rooms.
Bottom line
For most bedrooms, the Coway Airmega Mighty2 offers the most quiet airflow without an ionizer, and the Levoit Vital 200S-P gets close for far less money with better night-time smarts. Choose the Blueair SP4i only if you have a big room and accept its always-on ionizer, and treat the Core 300-P and Dyson HushJet as small-room specialists. Prices and stock shift, so check current listings before you buy.
