What to know about Hedgehog Buddy Black Ionic i3 (4x4)

A 650 W, 120 V wall-mountable dryer from a Norwegian brand. Hoses dry 4 pairs (2 pairs of shoes or gloves plus 2 pairs of boots), with room-temperature/98/113/140°F settings, multiple fan speeds, a 15-minute to 10-hour timer and an ionic odor mode. GearJunkie called it the most efficient boot dryer its reviewer had used.

Editorial notes

Why it stands out

Why we like it

GearJunkie called it the most efficient boot dryer its reviewer had used. Hedgehog's specs show four hoses, multiple fan speeds and a long timer range, which suit families drying boots, shoes and gloves together.

The heat settings give you control. Use room temperature or 98°F for heat-molded liners and save 140°F for tougher gear.

What to know

Skip it if you have limited wall space or want a quiet dryer, since it is loud on higher settings. The 140°F setting could warp heat-molded liners if run for long. Its hose arms stick out and are easy to snag. Only one independent hands-on review backs it, and the ionic mode's output is not quantified.

Performance

Score breakdown

Drying Performance

How fully and quickly the dryer dries damp and soaked footwear, including tall and insulated boots, based on independent timed tests (e.g., Bob Vila, CTV, GearJunkie).

8.8

GearJunkie found it very efficient, but there is no timed head-to-head test, so the score is moderated.

Gentle on Gear

Whether heat is low or adjustable enough (no-heat option, temperatures near 105°F) to avoid cracking leather, shrinking materials or warping heat-molded liners.

7.5

Has room-temperature and 98°F settings, but 140°F risks warping liners.

Capacity & Versatility

Number of pairs, tall-boot extensions, glove/helmet attachments, portability or wall mounting.

9.0

4 pairs, plus gloves and wall mounting.

Ease of Use & Noise

Controls (on/off, timer, heat switch), operating noise, footprint and setup.

6.5

Many controls, but loud at high fan speeds and the hoses snag.

Durability & Warranty

Build quality, owner-reported failures and length of manufacturer warranty.

7.0

2-year warranty, and spare parts are sold.

Safety, Air Quality & Materials

Electrical/fire safety (recalls, certification disclosures, auto shut-off), indoor-air effects such as ozone deodorizers, and disclosed materials and energy use.

6.5

Hedgehog says it is NEMKO-tested to IEC 60335; ionic output is not quantified, and it draws 650 W.

Value

Performance and features relative to typical street price.

6.5

$189 on Amazon; still expensive.
