The Best PFAS-Free Waffle Makers of 2026
Five ceramic-plate waffle makers with manufacturer PFAS-free claims, from a tested Belgian flip iron to a budget classic.
We may earn a commission when you buy through links on this page. Our editorial rankings are maintained separately from retailer relationships.
Most waffle makers still use conventional nonstick plates, and the brands rarely say what is in them. If you want to avoid PFAS in something that heats to waffle temperatures every weekend, the choice narrows quickly to ceramic-coated models whose makers say so in plain words.
This guide covers five of them. They differ a lot in style: thick Belgian, thin classic, four-at-once family size, two-at-once deep waffles and a cheap flip model that stores upright. Only one has an independent test of the ceramic version itself, so we say where the evidence is strong and where it comes from earlier models.
Prices move, so we describe cost in relative terms. Stock also moves: the most thoroughly tested PFAS-free model we found is currently sold out, which shaped the lineup.

Presto 03518 FlipSide Belgian Waffle Maker (ceramic)
The plainly labeled PFAS-free ceramic maker with real test results behind it.
Full product review →
A rotating Belgian waffle maker with ceramic nonstick plates, a countdown timer and audible alerts. It bakes a 7-inch, four-section, extra-thick waffle.
Why we like it
Food Network tested the ceramic Presto and named it Best Rotating. Testers found batter spread evenly, waffles came out crisp outside and fluffy inside, and they released without pre-oiling the plates. Wiping down was easy.
Presto's product page labels the ceramic interior 'PFAS free' and links a PFAS disclosure. That is the claim, made by the manufacturer, and it is clearer than the footnoted wording on the Cuisinarts. The earlier 3510 version was America's Test Kitchen's Best Buy, but that result is for a different model.
What to know
Skip it if you want adjustable browning, removable plates or a quick turnaround between batches. Avoid the third-party Amazon offer, which costs far more than Target or Best Buy.
Pros
- Ceramic version independently tested
- Plain 'PFAS free' label with a disclosure link
- Thick, evenly baked Belgian waffles
- Releases without oil
- Countdown timer with audible alerts
Cons
- Only one heat setting
- Slow to reheat between waffles
- Slightly uneven browning on the highest setting
- Plates are fixed and not dishwasher safe

Cuisinart WMR-CANAS Round Classic Waffle Maker
A cheap, crisp classic waffle iron with a ceramic plate and a 3-year warranty.
Full product review →
A round classic maker with five browning settings and ready lights. It makes one thin, crisp, roughly 6.5-inch waffle.
Why we like it
Cuisinart describes a 'PFAS-free ceramic nonstick plate' footnoted 'No intentionally added PFAS', and Target lists it as PFAS-free and BPA-free. It is among the cheapest options here and carries a limited 3-year warranty, which is rare at this price.
The earlier WMR-CA won praise from Wirecutter and Reviewed, but it used conventional nonstick. The ceramic version has no independent test, so treat the praise as a sign of the design, not a verdict on the new plate.
What to know
Skip it if you want thick Belgian waffles or removable plates. Make sure you buy the 'NAS' model, since the older WMR-CA is not the ceramic version.
Pros
- Low price
- Five browning settings
- Ready lights
- 3-year limited warranty
- Ceramic plate with PFAS-free wording
Cons
- Ceramic version not independently tested
- Footnoted 'no intentionally added PFAS' wording
- Fixed plates
- Thin waffles only

Cuisinart WAF-300NAS Belgian Waffle Maker with Pancake Plates
Four Belgian squares per batch, dishwasher-safe plates and pancake plates included.
Full product review →
A family-size Belgian maker with removable ceramic plates, a second set of pancake plates and six browning levels.
Why we like it
Cleanup is the standout. The plates come out and go in the dishwasher, which none of the other picks offer. Four slices per batch means a family is fed in fewer rounds, and the pancake plates add versatility.
The plates carry Cuisinart's 'No intentionally added PFAS' footnote, and the maker has a 3-year warranty. It is untested independently, so we capped its waffle-quality score.
What to know
Skip it if you are on a tight budget or want a tested waffle result. Amazon currently lists it from a third-party seller, and wattage varies between listings, so check the seller.
Pros
- Removable, dishwasher-safe plates
- Four waffles per batch
- Pancake plates included
- Six browning levels
- 3-year warranty
Cons
- No independent test
- Premium price
- Footnoted PFAS wording
- Large footprint

Cuisinart WAF-F40NAS Double Flip Belgian Waffle Maker
Two deep Belgian waffles at once on ceramic plates.
Full product review →
A 1400 W double flip maker that bakes two 1-inch Belgian waffles together, with five browning settings.
Why we like it
If you regularly feed three or four people, baking two deep waffles at once saves time. The plates are ceramic with the 'No intentionally added PFAS' footnote, and a 3-year warranty is included.
The earlier WAF-F40 was Reviewed's Best Belgian and TechGearLab's large-family pick. America's Test Kitchen, however, found its waffles pale and uneven. Those tests were of the conventional-nonstick version, so results on the ceramic model may differ.
What to know
Skip it if counter or cabinet space is limited, since it stands about 20 inches tall, or if you want dependable evenness.
Pros
- Two deep waffles per batch
- 1400 W heating
- Five browning settings
- 3-year warranty
- Ceramic plates with PFAS-free wording
Cons
- Mixed results on the earlier model
- Ceramic version untested
- Tall, bulky footprint
- Fixed plates and a high price

BELLA Flip-n-Store Belgian Waffle Maker (EverGood ceramic, model family 35102/35141/35142/35143/35222)
A low-cost flip Belgian maker that stores upright.
Full product review →
A flip Belgian waffle maker with an EverGood ceramic coating that bakes 1.5-inch-thick waffles and stands on its end in a cabinet.
Why we like it
Bella's site says the coating is 'made without PFAS, PFOA, PTFE, lead, and cadmium', an explicit list that is clearer than most. It makes thick waffles for a very low price, and the upright storage helps in small kitchens.
There are no independent tests of it.
What to know
Skip it if you want something built to last for years. Owners report a flimsy flip mechanism, and at least one unit failed within a month.
Pros
- Explicit PFAS-free wording
- Thick 1.5-inch Belgian waffles
- Very low price
- Stores upright
Cons
- No independent testing
- Owners report a flimsy flip mechanism
- No stated warranty or browning settings
- Fixed plates

How we review waffle makers
We compared 17 waffle makers using independent tests from America's Test Kitchen, Food Network, Reviewed and TechGearLab, plus manufacturer spec sheets, retailer listings, owner feedback and material-focused sources such as LeafScore, Mamavation and Organic Authority. We did not run hands-on tests ourselves.
Scores weight waffle quality (30 percent), value (20 percent), health and materials (15 percent), ease of cleaning (15 percent), coating durability and build (10 percent) and ease of use (10 percent). Health and materials rewards explicit, specific PFAS-free wording and a named ceramic surface. Where only an earlier conventional-nonstick version was tested, we capped quality and durability scores.
How We Picked
We started with 17 candidates and gathered independent tests, manufacturer pages, retailer listings and owner feedback. Each was scored on waffle quality, value, health and materials, cleaning, durability and ease of use. The weights are listed in the methodology above.
Every pick was then challenged in a structured review. That changed the lineup. The Cuisinart WMR-CANAS was first ranked at the top, but its praise came from tests of an older conventional-nonstick model, so the Presto 03518, which Food Network tested in ceramic form, took Best Overall and the Cuisinart moved to Best Value with capped quality scores.
The review also removed the Hamilton Beach 26031 because its maker says only 'PTFE and PFOA free', which is not the same as PFAS-free. Cuisinart health scores were trimmed because 'no intentionally added PFAS' is weaker wording than a flat 'PFAS free'.
What to Look For
The exact PFAS wording
'PFOA-free' and 'PTFE-free' are not the same as 'PFAS-free'. Look for the word PFAS, ideally with the coating named. Presto and Bella are plainest; Cuisinart uses 'no intentionally added PFAS'.
Model suffix
Cuisinart sells ceramic 'NAS' models alongside older conventional-nonstick ones with nearly identical names. Check the full model number on the box or listing.
Waffle style
Belgian makers bake thick waffles with deep pockets. Classic makers produce thin, crisp ones. Pick the style you actually eat.
Cleanup
Ceramic plates generally should not be scrubbed hard. Removable, dishwasher-safe plates are the easiest route, and only the WAF-300NAS here has them. Otherwise, wipe the plates once cooled.
Controls and size
Browning settings, ready lights and timers cut guesswork. Check storage height and footprint, especially for flip and double models.
Health, Materials & Safety
Every pick here uses a ceramic nonstick surface, and every manufacturer makes a PFAS-free claim. These are manufacturer statements and we did not verify them independently.
Presto labels its plates 'PFAS free' and links a disclosure. Bella says its EverGood coating is made without PFAS, PFOA, PTFE, lead and cadmium. Cuisinart's three models use the footnoted wording 'No intentionally added PFAS' and are listed by retailers as BPA-free.
Ceramic coatings often lose their slickness over time, so avoid metal utensils and aerosol sprays, and clean with a soft cloth or sponge. Buyers who care most about explicit labeling should lean toward Presto.
Other PFAS-Free Waffle Makers We Considered
GreenPan Elite 4-Square: America's Test Kitchen Recommended it and GreenPan states an explicit PFAS-free claim, with removable plates and a limited lifetime warranty. It is out of stock on Amazon and GreenPan's site, so we could not recommend it as something to buy now. We will reconsider when it returns.
Hamilton Beach 26031: well reviewed, but the maker's page says only 'PTFE and PFOA free'.
Hamilton Beach 26081: the PFAS-free claim appears only in a retailer title.
Presto 03517: no independent tests and no named coating.
Cuisinart WAF-F30NAS: untested, and it overlaps with the Presto 03518.
Bella Rotating Belgian, Rome 1100 and the Appalachian cast iron waffle iron: limited availability, no confirmed listings or, in the cast iron case, heavy and expensive.
FAQ
Are ceramic waffle makers really PFAS-free?
The makers of these models say so, with wording that varies from 'PFAS free' to 'no intentionally added PFAS'. We rely on those manufacturer statements.
Do ceramic plates need oil?
Food Network found waffles released from the Presto without pre-oiling. Other models are untested, so a light wipe of oil may help.
Which is best for cleanup?
The Cuisinart WAF-300NAS, with removable dishwasher-safe plates. The others should be wiped clean.
Which is cheapest?
The Bella Flip-n-Store and Cuisinart WMR-CANAS are the budget picks.
Where should I buy the Presto 03518?
Target or Best Buy. The Amazon listing is a third-party offer at a much higher price.
Bottom line
For most shoppers, the Presto 03518 is the safest PFAS-free choice: plainly labeled, independently tested in its ceramic form and good at thick Belgian waffles. Buy it at Target or Best Buy rather than from the pricey third-party Amazon offer. If you want a thin classic waffle on a budget, the Cuisinart WMR-CANAS is the easy call, while the WAF-300NAS suits families that value dishwasher-safe plates. Whatever you choose, confirm the PFAS-free wording on the box or listing before you pay.
