Our verdict
A handsome machine that keeps hot water and coffee off plastic. It costs far more than the SimplyGoodCoffee Brewer, and its tank is plastic, so choose it for the design more than the materials.

Pros

  • Glass water lines and stainless basket
  • Borosilicate glass carafe
  • Named polymer disclosed for the tank
  • 5-year warranty

Cons

  • Premium price
  • Tritan cold-water tank and polymer base
  • Glass lines are fragile
  • Carafe and dripper are not dishwasher-safe

What to know about Ratio Eight Series 2 (glass carafe)

Ratio's flagship brewer. Hot water runs through hand-blown borosilicate glass water lines to a stainless shower head and double-wall stainless basket, then into a borosilicate glass carafe. Ratio calls the brew path plastic-free. The only plastic in the water path is the Tritan cold-water tank. It is a premium, design-led choice for buyers who want pour-over-style automatic brewing with very little plastic.
Editorial notes

Why it stands out

Why we like it

Ratio says hot water runs through borosilicate glass lines to a stainless shower head and double-wall stainless basket, then into a borosilicate carafe. The Filtery calls it the lowest-plastic automatic coffee maker it found.

The cold-water tank is Eastman Tritan TX2001, which Ratio says never touches hot water. It has a 5-year warranty.

What to know

Skip it if you want zero plastic anywhere in the machine, or if the price is a stretch. Our coffee-quality score is an estimate based on the design, since we found no SCA certification, temperature measurement or independent taste test for this model.

Score breakdown

Plastic-Free Brew Path

How completely hot water and brewed coffee are kept away from plastic, as disclosed by the manufacturer and checked by reviewers. Covers the reservoir, heater and water lines, shower head, brew basket, carafe and lid. Full marks: only glass, stainless, ceramic or silicone touches water and coffee. Partial marks: plastic limited to the cold-water tank. Low marks: plastic baskets or funnels that hold hot coffee.

8.5

Brew temperature accuracy (SCA 195-205°F), contact time, even saturation and taste in independent tests, plus SCA/ECBC certification.

7.0
Unverified estimate: pour-over-style design, but no certification or lab test for the Series 2.
Health & Materials Transparency

How specific the material disclosures are: named polymers, BPA/BPS/BPF/phthalate-free claims, any aluminum in the water path, explicit PFAS statements, third-party testing, safety certifications (UL/NSF) and recall history.
