Aura Carver Mat 10" (AFM900-M series)

#1 · Best Overall
8.1 /10 Our score
Lowest verified price $179.00 Amazon
Our verdict
The best choice for families who will manage everything remotely and whose grandparent has stable home Wi-Fi. Walmart lists it below Amazon and Best Buy, so compare prices before buying. For weak internet, look at the Pexar instead.

Pros

  • Giver-side setup; nothing for the grandparent to configure
  • Free unlimited cloud storage and no subscription
  • Auto brightness and room-light sleep
  • Simple app sharing for the whole family

Cons

  • Landscape only; portrait photos are paired side by side
  • 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only
  • No local storage, so it needs a constant connection
  • Modest 1280x800 screen

What to know about Aura Carver Mat 10" (AFM900-M series)

Aura's best-selling 10.1-inch landscape frame with a paper-style mat. Family members load it from the Aura app and it needs no subscription. Engadget names it best overall and Forbes Vetted names it best overall. It suits gift-givers who want the grandparent to do nothing but plug it in. The non-mat Carver costs $149.
Editorial notes

Why it stands out

Why we like it

Engadget's 2026 guide names the Carver Mat best overall, and Forbes Vetted also lists it as a top pick. The appeal is that the family does everything: set it up, add photos from the Aura app, and the grandparent just plugs it in.

It sleeps when the room lights go off and adjusts brightness automatically, so there are no settings to touch. Aura's help center lists energy use of about 10 Wh awake and 2 Wh asleep.

What to know

Skip it if the grandparent's internet is patchy or runs only on 5 GHz. It has no local storage, so photos stop when the Wi-Fi drops.

Score breakdown

Ease of use for the grandparent

Zero-setup or giver-side setup, gift/preload mode, works without the recipient touching an app, simple controls, auto brightness/sleep.

9.2
Family set it up remotely and add photos from the app; auto on/off and auto brightness, so the grandparent never needs the app.
Family photo sharing

8.8
Unlimited invites and unlimited free cloud storage; video sound is limited to 30-second clips.
Display quality and size

Resolution and sharpness, color accuracy, anti-glare, viewing angles, screen size for aging eyes, and orientation flexibility, based on tester observations.
