Our verdict
The best-documented countertop RO we found. It has certification that names its models, strong independent test results and a glass carafe. Daily convenience is its weak spot.

Pros

  • Certified to NSF/ANSI 42, 53, 58, 372 and 401, including PFOA/PFOS
  • Purified water touches only glass
  • WaterFilterGuru's top-scoring countertop RO
  • Lowest price among certified units
  • Optional mineral filter adds minerals back

Cons

  • Small capacity means several refill cycles a day
  • Filters rated for 600 gallons, so cost per gallon is higher than the Classic
  • Owners report some failures, leaks and weak support

What to know about AquaTru Carafe (AT100)

A compact version of AquaTru's RO system that fills a removable 64 oz glass carafe you can pour from or refrigerate. It carries the same IAPMO certification to NSF/ANSI 42/53/58/401, including PFOA/PFOS. It was WaterFilterGuru's top-scoring countertop RO (9.57). Best for people who want glass contact and certified PFAS reduction at a lower price.
Editorial notes

Why it stands out

Why we like it

AquaTru's data sheet lists models AT100 to AT140 as IAPMO R&T certified to NSF/ANSI 42, 53, 58, 372 and 401, with PFOA and PFOS covered under standard 53. The data sheet reports an average PFOA/PFOS reduction of about 99% over 300 gallons.

Independent testing backs this up. WaterFilterGuru scored it 9.57, its top countertop RO result. Its Tap Score panel found 100% removal of uranium, fluoride, copper and chloroform. Purified water sits only in glass, and the filter housing is BPA- and BPS-free Tritan.

What to know

Skip it if you refill often or have a large household. The 8-cup batch takes about 16.5 minutes, and the carafe is lightweight when empty.

Score breakdown

PFAS reduction evidence

Strength of proof that the system cuts PFAS: a current NSF/ANSI 53/58 PFOA/PFOS or total-PFAS certification (NSF, WQA or IAPMO) and/or independent lab results (TechGearLab/Tap Score, Quality Water Lab). Certified plus lab-verified scores highest; marketing-only claims score lowest.

9.5
Its data sheet names the exact models (AT100–AT140) under IAPMO's NSF/ANSI 53 PFOA/PFOS certification, with about 99% average reduction.
Other contaminant coverage

Certified or lab-verified reduction of lead, chlorine/chloramine, VOCs, pharmaceuticals (NSF 401), microplastics, and for RO, TDS, fluoride, nitrate and arsenic.

8.8
Certified to 42/53/58/401, plus an independent Tap Score panel showing 100% removal of 8 of 10 detected contaminants.
Value

Upfront price plus annual filter cost per gallon, judged against the protection delivered.

8.2
Cheapest certified unit at $337.50; its 600-gal filters cost about $0.29 per gallon.
Installation & cabinet fit

DIY difficulty, whether it needs a drilled faucet hole, a drain saddle or an electrical outlet, renter-friendliness, and under-sink footprint (tank vs tankless).

8.5
Compact and plug-in; the carafe fits in a fridge door.
Flow & daily convenience

Flow rate or production speed, filter-change ease, and filter-life reminders.

5.5
8 cups take about 16.5 minutes, so expect 3–4 refill/empty cycles a day.
Health, materials & sustainability

Lead-free component certification (NSF 372), BPA disclosures, wastewater ratio, energy use, effects on pH and minerals, and any media leaching found in lab tests.

8.0
Stored water touches only glass; Tritan BPA/BPS-free housing; NSF 372.
Reliability & support

Leak reports, warranty length, availability of replacement parts and filters.
