The Best Toy & LEGO Advent Calendars for Kids of 2026

Six toy advent calendars worth opening this December, from Star Wars LEGO builds to wooden farm animals for toddlers.

We may earn a commission when you buy through links on this page. Our editorial rankings are maintained separately from retailer relationships.

A toy advent calendar should give a child something to play with after December 24, not a pile of stickers and plastic filler. The best ones hand over a small build, figure or vehicle every day and leave behind a set that stays in the toy bin.

This guide covers six 2026 calendars across LEGO, wooden toys, magnetic tiles and die-cast cars. They range from toddler-safe to ages 6 and up, and from budget to premium. Most are in stock now, which matters because popular calendars can thin out as December approaches.

Our top pick is the LEGO Star Wars calendar, which has the broadest independent support. If your child loves Disney, wants a family game, or is under 3, one of the other picks will likely fit better.

#1 Best Overall

LEGO 75456

The best-supported LEGO calendar, with Mandalorian figures and a playmat

Full product review →
8.0 /10
LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar 2026 75456
Lowest verified price $44.99 at Amazon

A 293-piece LEGO calendar themed on The Mandalorian & Grogu, with mini vehicles, scenery and four figures. It is rated for ages 6 and up.

Why we like it

This calendar has the most independent support of any LEGO set here. Good Housekeeping named it the best toy calendar for the whole family, and NBC Select and TODAY also recommend it. Each door holds a small build or figure, and the lineup includes Mando, Grogu, Moff Gideon and IG-11.

The fold-out playmat is the feature that sets it apart. Kids can stage the mini vehicles and scenes on it after December, and the builds are sturdy enough for ongoing play.

What to know

Skip it if your child is not into Star Wars, or is under 6. It lists at a premium over the City and Friends calendars, so the value case is stronger if you catch a sale.

Pros

  • Recommended by Good Housekeeping, NBC Select and TODAY
  • 293 pieces of mini builds, vehicles and scenery
  • Four collectible figures including Mando and Grogu
  • Fold-out playmat for play after December
  • In stock and sold by Amazon

Cons

  • Priced above the other LEGO calendars at list
  • Appeals mostly to Star Wars fans
  • Small parts, so not for under 6

#2 Best for After-Christmas Play

LEGO 43298

A 290-piece Disney calendar whose box turns into a game

Full product review →
7.9 /10
LEGO Disney Princess Advent Calendar 2026 43298
Lowest verified price $30.00 at Amazon

A LEGO calendar for ages 5 and up with four microdolls, four animal friends and mini builds. The box converts into a board game for up to eight players.

Why we like it

It packs 290 pieces, with Ariel, Cinderella, Moana and Mulan microdolls plus Gus, Mushu, Pua and Sebastian. LEGO's and Target's listings both describe the box becoming a game board with a buildable spinner, which gives siblings and friends a reason to keep playing after the 24th.

At its current sale price it is the best price per piece among the 2026 LEGO calendars. That price is below the list price and may not last.

What to know

Skip it if your child wants full-size minifigure-style characters. Some LEGO.com reviewers complain the figures are only microdolls. We also found no independent hands-on review, and TODAY is the only outlet recommending it.

Pros

  • 290 pieces
  • Four microdolls and four animal friends
  • Box becomes a game board for up to eight players
  • Rated for ages 5 and up
  • Strong price per piece at the current sale price

Cons

  • Only TODAY recommends it among the outlets we found
  • Microdolls rather than larger figures
  • Current price is a sale price and may return to list

#3 Best Budget LEGO

LEGO 42698

The cheapest in-stock LEGO calendar of the season

Full product review →
7.7 /10
LEGO Friends Advent Calendar 2026 42698
Lowest verified price $25.00 at Amazon

A winter-themed LEGO Friends calendar with 211 pieces, three minidolls and six animal figures, for ages 6 and up.

Why we like it

This is a genuine LEGO calendar at the lowest entry price of the 2026 range. Both Amazon and Target have it in stock, and TODAY recommends it. Each door holds a mini build or figure, with three minidolls and six animals in total.

It is a good fit for families buying for more than one child, or for anyone who wants LEGO without the licensed-theme premium.

What to know

Skip it if you want a playmat or game board, or the most pieces for the money. It has the fewest pieces of any 2026 LEGO calendar, and Disney Princess costs less per piece while its sale price lasts.

Pros

  • Lowest price of the 2026 LEGO calendars
  • Three minidolls and six animal figures
  • In stock at Amazon and Target
  • Recommended by TODAY

Cons

  • Fewest pieces (211) of the 2026 LEGO set
  • No playmat or game board

#4 Best for Toddlers

HABA My First Advent Calendar – Farmyard Animals

Wooden farm animals and a storybook for the youngest kids

Full product review →
7.7 /10
HABA My First Advent Calendar Farmyard Animals
Lowest verified price $34.99 at Amazon

A reusable German-made calendar with 24 chunky wooden farm animals, a 24-chapter storybook and a 3D backdrop, rated for ages 2 and up.

Why we like it

Good Housekeeping named it the best toy advent calendar for toddlers. Every door holds one wooden animal, so there is no filler, and the daily story chapter turns the countdown into a bedtime routine.

It is the only calendar in our pool rated for ages 2 and up, and it avoids both small LEGO parts and magnets. The wooden figures also suit parents who prefer wood to plastic.

What to know

Skip it for kids past about age 4, who will find the contents too simple. On Amazon it is sold by a third-party seller.

Pros

  • Rated for ages 2 and up
  • 24 wooden animals, one per day
  • 24-chapter storybook and 3D backdrop
  • Reusable packaging
  • Named best for toddlers by Good Housekeeping

Cons

  • Same design since 2021
  • Simple contents suit ages 2 to 4 best
  • Third-party seller on Amazon

#5 Best Magnetic Building Set

MAGNA-TILES microMAGS Advent Calendar 34-Piece (256034AC)

The critics' favorite, with a train track built into the box

Full product review →
7.6 /10
MAGNA-TILES microMAGS Advent Calendar 34-Piece Set
Lowest verified price $38.50 at Amazon

A 34-piece microMAGS magnetic building calendar for ages 3 and up, with Santa and Conductor figures and a microChassis vehicle.

Why we like it

This is the most widely recommended toy calendar of the season. Good Housekeeping and Mommy Poppins name it best overall, and TODAY, NBC Select, Hello! and Parenting Patch also recommend it. The packaging interior doubles as a train track for the microChassis, and the mix-and-match figures add variety.

The pieces work with other microMAGS sets, so it grows into a collection.

What to know

Skip it if you want the most toys for the money or have a child who still mouths objects. It has the highest cost per piece of the building calendars, and the set contains magnets, which carry a swallowing warning. The microMAGS are smaller than standard MAGNA-TILES and are not compatible with them.

Pros

  • Recommended by six outlets
  • Packaging becomes a train track
  • Pieces work with other microMAGS sets
  • Rated for ages 3 and up

Cons

  • 34 pieces over 24 doors, the highest cost per piece
  • Contains magnets and small parts
  • Not compatible with standard MAGNA-TILES
  • Sold by a third-party seller on Amazon

#6 Best for Car Lovers

Hot Wheels 2026 Advent Calendar (JLG41)

Ten die-cast cars plus winter accessories for car-obsessed kids

Full product review →
7.3 /10
Hot Wheels 2026 Advent Calendar
Lowest verified price $26.99 at Amazon

A Hot Wheels calendar for ages 3 and up with 34 items across 24 days: ten 1:64 die-cast vehicles, 14 winter accessories and 10 ornament clips.

Why we like it

The cars are the lasting part. Ten 1:64 die-cast vehicles join an existing Hot Wheels collection and include an exclusive snow-globe car with a yeti driver. It is also one of the lower-priced calendars here, sold by Amazon, and TODAY, Hello! and Mommy Poppins recommend it.

The winter accessories give kids something to build tracks and scenes with, and the ornament clips let them hang the cars on a tree.

What to know

Skip it if you want ten full days of cars. The vehicles are fewer than a third of the 34 items, and the rest are accessories and clips. Mattel's warning says it is not for children under 3.

Pros

  • Ten 1:64 die-cast vehicles
  • Exclusive snow-globe car
  • Low price, sold by Amazon
  • Recommended by TODAY, Hello! and Mommy Poppins

Cons

  • Only ten of 34 items are cars
  • Accessories and clips are less durable play value
  • Small parts, not for under 3

How we review advent calendars

PickMetric's picks come from research across independent roundups, manufacturer spec sheets, retailer listings and owner feedback, followed by a structured review in which every pick is challenged before publication. We looked at 17 products and scored the finalists on six criteria: build and toy quality (30 percent), value (20 percent), variety (15 percent), presentation and daily experience (15 percent), availability (10 percent) and health, materials and sustainability (10 percent).

Build quality and value carry the most weight because a toy calendar is judged by what is left in January. Piece count, figure count and whether the box turns into a playmat, game board or track all feed into that. The awards, not the raw totals alone, set the order of close finishers.

How We Picked

We started with 17 toy and LEGO calendars and drew on independent roundups from outlets including Good Housekeeping, TODAY, NBC Select, Hello! Magazine, Mommy Poppins, Brickset and Brick Fanatics, along with manufacturer specs, retailer listings and owner reviews. We scored each finalist on build and toy quality, value, variety, presentation, availability and materials.

Every pick was then challenged before publication, and the review changed the lineup. LEGO Disney Princess was first in an earlier draft, but a reviewer pointed out that only one outlet recommends it and that its low price is a sale price. We moved the better-supported Star Wars calendar to the top and lowered Disney's scores. The review also removed a LEGO Marvel set that had no independent endorsement, and renamed the Friends award from best value to best budget, since Disney costs less per piece at current prices.

What to Look For

Age rating

Most LEGO calendars are rated 5 or 6 and up because of small parts. For children under 3, the HABA wooden set is the only calendar here rated for ages 2 and up.

Pieces per door

A 24-door calendar with 200 to 300 pieces gives a small build each day. Compare piece counts, not just prices. Some sets hold fewer than one real toy per door, so check how many items are figures or vehicles and how many are accessories.

What it becomes after December

A playmat, game board or track gives the calendar a second life. Star Wars has a playmat, Disney Princess a game board and MAGNA-TILES a train track.

Licensed theme or not

Star Wars costs more at list than Friends or City. If your child does not care about the theme, an unlicensed set gives you more pieces for less.

Price and timing

LEGO calendars are often discounted from list, but sale prices come and go. Check the seller too, since some listings are third-party offers. Order early because the popular sets sell through.

Health, Materials & Safety

Every calendar here has small parts except possibly the HABA set, so match the age rating to your child. LEGO sets are rated 5 or 6 and up, Hot Wheels carries a choking warning for children under 3, and MAGNA-TILES is rated 3 and up.

The MAGNA-TILES set contains small magnets. Retailer listings carry the standard warning that swallowed magnets can cause serious injury. The manufacturer says the pieces are made of non-toxic plastic free of BPA, phthalates and latex, with rivets that keep the magnets secure. Those material claims come from the manufacturer.

For buyers who prefer wood over plastic, HABA's figures are wooden and made in Germany. On packaging, LEGO says roughly 93 to 95 percent of its packaging by weight is paper-based, and it is phasing out plastic bags inside the box.

Other Toy & LEGO Advent Calendars for Kids We Considered

LEGO City 2026 (60510) is a good unlicensed alternative with a classic Christmas theme, 252 pieces and a playmat. Target had it in stock at list price when we checked. On Amazon it showed only a third-party offer ahead of a mid-November ship date, so we left it out of the main lineup.

LEGO Marvel (76340) has 317 pieces and six minifigures, but we found no independent review or outlet endorsement. Star Wars covers the licensed-fan slot with better support.

Playmobil (71472) is recommended by three outlets and is inexpensive, but Amazon has only a third-party offer and it has just 84 pieces.

KiwiCo Winter Wonderland is a DIY craft kit for ages 9 and up that costs two to three times as much as our picks. The Thames & Kosmos science calendar was out of stock, and its experiments are consumable. The Play-Doh calendar is not available until later in November, contains wheat and offers little lasting play. The National Geographic gemstone calendar is a mineral set rather than a toy or build calendar. Bluey, Numberblocks, Funko Bitty Pop and Squishmas calendars had too few figures, unclear contents, stock gaps or sat outside the focus.

FAQ

What age are LEGO advent calendars for?

The 2026 LEGO calendars here are rated 5 or 6 and up, because the pieces are small. Younger children are better served by the wooden HABA calendar.

Which toy advent calendar is best for toddlers?

The HABA My First Advent Calendar Farmyard Animals. It is rated for ages 2 and up, uses chunky wooden figures and was named best for toddlers by Good Housekeeping.

Is the LEGO Disney Princess calendar's sale price guaranteed?

No. The current price is below list, and sale prices can return to list. If it matters, buy while the discount is showing.

Are magnetic calendars safe for young kids?

The MAGNA-TILES calendar is rated for ages 3 and up, but it contains small magnets with a swallowing warning. Keep it away from children who still put things in their mouths.

Which calendar is the best budget option?

LEGO Friends has the lowest price of the LEGO calendars. Hot Wheels is also inexpensive if your child likes cars. Disney Princess gives more pieces per dollar while its sale lasts.

When should I buy?

Soon. Most picks are in stock now, but popular calendars can sell out closer to December, and some listings are third-party offers.

Bottom line

For most families with kids 6 and up, the LEGO Star Wars calendar is the safest choice, with the strongest independent backing and a playmat for after December. Pick Disney Princess if the sale price holds and your child prefers a game, Friends if the lowest LEGO price matters most, HABA for toddlers, MAGNA-TILES for magnetic-tile fans and Hot Wheels for car lovers. Check the age rating and stock before you buy, and order early, since the best-reviewed calendars are the ones most likely to sell through.
