This is the 1st Gen model, sold on Amazon by a third-party seller. The brand now sells a 2nd Gen Programmable version direct, with a 24-hour timer, but it is currently out of stock on Amazon. If a timer matters, buy that one from the brand. Otherwise this is the best fit for anyone who wants an automatic brewer with a genuinely glass-and-steel brew path.

What to know about SimplyGoodCoffee THE BREWER - Plastic-Free (1st Gen), 8-Cup

An 8-cup one-button drip brewer with a borosilicate glass reservoir and carafe and a 304 stainless flow path, shower head, basket and boiler. The maker says no plastic or aluminum touches water. This is the 1st Gen, now sold out at the brand ($399.99 list) and sold on Amazon by a third-party seller.

Why we like it

SimplyGoodCoffee lists a glass reservoir and carafe, a 304 stainless shower head, basket and boiler, and medical-grade silicone seals. Even the cold-water tank is glass, which is not true of the Ratio Eight. It brews at 195-205°F and is listed to the Gold Cup / SCA standard.

Tom's Guide tested this generation and called it a fantastic Moccamaster alternative. Unlike the Chemex, it needs no kettle and controls temperature for you. It comes with a 5-year warranty, so register it with the brand and keep your receipt.

What to know

Skip it if you want a delay timer or need a removable reservoir. Tom's Guide also notes it is only mostly plastic-free, since the exterior is plastic and the tubing is silicone.
