The Best Non-Toxic (PFAS-Free) Baking Sheets of 2026
Six baking sheets that are uncoated or carry an explicit PFAS-free coating claim, ranked by baking performance, durability and cleanup.
We may earn a commission when you buy through links on this page. Our editorial rankings are maintained separately from retailer relationships.
Most nonstick baking sheets were once coated with PTFE, and the wider family of PFAS chemicals has made many shoppers wary of anything slick. The good news is that baking sheets are one of the easiest pieces of bakeware to buy without a coating. Plain aluminum, aluminized steel and stainless steel all bake well, and top test kitchens have favored uncoated pans for years.
Our top pick is an uncoated aluminum half sheet from Nordic Ware that independent testers rank at or near the top. If you want easy release without parchment, a USA Pan nonstick model uses a silicone coating the maker says is free of PTFE, PFOA, PFOS and PFAS. A ceramic option from Caraway publishes third-party lab results.
Every pick here is either uncoated or has a manufacturer statement about its coating. Each also comes with real trade-offs, which we spell out below.

Nordic Ware 43100 (Amazon: 43100AMZ)
The uncoated aluminum half sheet testers keep choosing
Full product review →
A USA-made, uncoated aluminum half sheet with an encapsulated steel rim. It is the standard that other baking sheets are measured against.
Why we like it
This is the consensus winner in independent testing: America's Test Kitchen's top pick, Reviewed's best overall and Taste of Home's best aluminum, and NBC Select and Prudent Reviews recommend it too. Nordic Ware's baking-sheet FAQ states that its Naturals aluminum bakeware is made without PFAS, PTFE, PFOA and Teflon, and that the sheets are uncoated. With no coating touching your food, there is nothing that could contain PFAS.
It has an encapsulated steel rim to resist warping, is safe to 500°F, and weighs about 1.5 pounds. It is made in the USA with a lifetime warranty and is modestly priced. The Amazon offer is from a third-party seller, so compare Walmart and Target, which carry the same model.
What to know
Skip it if you hate lining pans. Food sticks to bare aluminum, and burnt-on grease takes scrubbing. Aluminum also reacts with acidic foods.
Pros
- No coating of any kind
- Even browning in independent tests
- Encapsulated steel rim resists warping
- Safe to 500°F
- Made in the USA, lifetime warranty
Cons
- Food sticks without parchment, foil or a silicone mat
- Hand wash only
- Bare aluminum reacts with acidic foods

USA Pan 1050HS
The best-tested nonstick sheet without PTFE
Full product review →
A USA-made aluminized-steel half sheet with a corrugated surface and an Americoat silicone release coating. USA Pan says the coating is free of PTFE, PFOA, PFOS and PFAS.
Why we like it
America's Test Kitchen named it a nonstick co-winner, and Prudent Reviews found it gave the best cookie doneness and the easiest cleanup. USA Pan's FAQ describes Americoat as PTFE, PFOA, PFOS, PFAS and BPA free. It is made in the USA with a lifetime warranty.
Food slides off with little effort, so you can bake without parchment more often. It is priced close to the uncoated Nordic Ware.
What to know
Skip it if you want a coating-free pan or roast above 450°F, the coating's limit. Some older USA Pan pages mention only PTFE, PFOA and BPA, so use the FAQ wording as your reference.
Pros
- Easy release and cleanup
- Best cookie doneness in Prudent Reviews' test
- Explicit PFAS-free statement from the maker
- Made in the USA, lifetime warranty
- Mid-priced
Cons
- Coating limited to 450°F
- Corrugations can trap residue
- One corner buckled in Prudent Reviews' test
- Too much oil can discolor the coating

Nordic Ware 44600 (Amazon: 44600AMZ)
The cheapest pan here, with room to spare
Full product review →
An extra-large 21 x 15 inch version of Nordic Ware's uncoated Naturals aluminum sheet. It offers about 38 percent more surface than a half sheet.
Why we like it
It uses the same uncoated aluminum that Nordic Ware says is made without PFAS, PTFE and PFOA. America's Test Kitchen rates it Highly Recommended and found it as sturdy as its winner. It is the lowest-priced pan in this lineup, which makes it the best performance per dollar for big batches of cookies or roasted vegetables.
It is made in the USA, rated to 500°F, and carries a lifetime limited warranty.
What to know
Measure your oven first. It will not fit smaller or 24-inch ovens or standard half-sheet racks. If it won't fit, the 43100 half sheet costs only a little more.
Pros
- Lowest price in the lineup
- Large cooking area
- No coating
- Sturdy in ATK's testing
- Safe to 500°F
Cons
- Won't fit many ovens
- Food sticks without parchment
- Bare aluminum reacts with acidic foods
- Hand wash only

USA Pan 1050HS-UN
A heavy, USA-made steel sheet with no nonstick coating
Full product review →
The bare version of USA Pan's half sheet, made from aluminized steel with reinforced sides. It has no nonstick coating.
Why we like it
America's Test Kitchen rates it Highly Recommended. USA Pan's product page says it is made without any nonstick coating, and it is rated to 450°F, made in the USA and covered by a lifetime limited warranty. It is a sensible choice if you want a sturdier, heavier pan than Nordic Ware's aluminum and don't want a coated surface.
Note that the food surface is the pan's aluminum-silicon coating on steel, not stainless or plain aluminum.
What to know
Skip it if you want a manufacturer PFAS statement on the pan's own page; its PFAS-free wording appears only on the Amazon listing. USA Pan's page also carries a leftover Americoat block, so confirm you're buying the uncoated 1050HS-UN.
Pros
- No nonstick coating
- Heavy, sturdy build
- Made in the USA
- Lifetime limited warranty
- Low price
Cons
- Warped slightly in ATK's test, then recovered once cool
- Needs greasing or parchment
- Hand wash and dry thoroughly
- Limited to 450°F

Caraway Large Baking Sheet (18x13)
Ceramic nonstick with published PFAS lab results
Full product review →
An aluminized-steel half sheet with a mineral-based ceramic nonstick coating and stainless handles, rated to 550°F.
Why we like it
Caraway says its ceramic coating is made without PTFE, PFOA or PFAS and links third-party lab results, the most transparent disclosure in this lineup. Taste of Home and NBC Select recommend it. Release and cleanup are strong, and the 550°F rating is the highest among the nonstick options.
Caraway's pages describe different test scopes, so read the report on carawayhome.com. The Amazon offer is from a third-party seller, not Amazon.
What to know
Skip it if you're on a budget or dislike heavy pans. It is premium priced, weighs 3.7 pounds and is made in China.
Pros
- Published third-party PFAS test results
- Easy release and cleanup
- Rated to 550°F
- Stainless handles
Cons
- Overbrowned cookie edges in Prudent Reviews' test
- Handles run hot
- Buckles at high heat but flattens once cool
- Expensive and heavy; ceramic release fades over time

Hestan 48650
Warp-proof stainless for buyers who want no coating at all
Full product review →
A premium tri-ply half sheet with stainless steel bonded around an aluminum core and large handles, rated to 600°F.
Why we like it
America's Test Kitchen and Prudent Reviews both found it did not warp. Food touches only stainless steel, which does not react with acidic foods, and there is no coating to wear off. It has a lifetime warranty.
It suits buyers who want no coating and no exposed aluminum, and who are happy to pay for a pan meant to last.
What to know
Skip it if you want easy release or a low price. Food sticks badly, it was the hardest to clean in Prudent Reviews' test, and its stainless contains nickel, which matters for people with a nickel allergy.
Pros
- Did not warp in testing
- Stainless food surface
- Rated to 600°F
- Lifetime warranty
Cons
- Food sticks badly
- Hardest to clean in Prudent Reviews' test
- Heavy at 4.5 pounds
- Very expensive

How we review bakeware
PickMetric's picks come from research across independent tests (America's Test Kitchen, Reviewed, Taste of Home, NBC Select and Prudent Reviews), manufacturer specs and FAQs, and owner feedback. We evaluated 15 pans and scored each on six weighted criteria: baking and roasting performance (30 percent), warp resistance and durability (20), health and materials (15), food release and cleanup (15), value (15), and size and handling (5).
Because this guide is about avoiding PFAS, the health and materials score rewards uncoated metal and coatings with an explicit manufacturer PFAS-free statement, and it counts third-party testing in a brand's favor. Rankings follow the weighted score, not the award label. We did not test pans hands-on.
How We Picked
We began with 15 baking sheets and drew on independent tests from America's Test Kitchen, Reviewed, Taste of Home, NBC Select and Prudent Reviews, along with manufacturer specs, FAQs and owner feedback. Pans were scored on baking performance, warp resistance, health and materials, release and cleanup, value, and size and handling.
Every pick was then challenged in a structured review before publication, and that review changed the lineup. An OXO sheet was dropped because its PFAS-free claim could not be confirmed from the maker and a related listing conflicted with it. A budget award for the uncoated USA Pan was removed because the price gap over the Nordic Ware was small; the value award went to the cheaper extra-large Nordic Ware instead. The uncoated USA Pan's health score was also lowered because its PFAS wording appears only on a retailer listing.
Ranks follow the weighted score, which is why Caraway sits just above Hestan despite its award label.
What to Look For
Coated or uncoated
Uncoated pans, whether aluminum, aluminized steel or stainless, have no coating that could contain PFAS. The trade-off is sticking, which parchment or a silicone mat mostly solves. If you want nonstick, look for a maker that names PFAS explicitly, not just PTFE and PFOA.
Material
Aluminum heats evenly and browns well but reacts with acidic foods such as tomatoes. Stainless does not react but sticks and is expensive. Aluminized steel is heavier and sturdy.
Warp resistance
A reinforced rim helps a pan stay flat. Thin pans can buckle at high heat, and some recover once cool.
Size and fit
A standard half sheet is about 18 x 13 inches and fits most ovens and racks. Measure before buying anything larger.
Oven temperature
Check the rating. Coated pans often top out near 450°F, while uncoated and stainless pans go higher.
Health, Materials & Safety
PFAS are a large family of chemicals used in some nonstick coatings. The simplest way to avoid them is to choose a pan with no coating. Nordic Ware states that its Naturals aluminum bakeware is made without PFAS, PTFE, PFOA and Teflon, and that the sheets are uncoated.
Among nonstick options, USA Pan says its Americoat silicone coating is free of PTFE, PFOA, PFOS, PFAS and BPA. Caraway says its ceramic coating is made without PTFE, PFOA or PFAS and links third-party lab results; read the full report on its site.
Bare aluminum reacts with acidic foods, so line the pan for tomato dishes. Stainless steel contains nickel, which may matter if you have a nickel allergy. Wash coated pans by hand and avoid metal utensils to keep coatings intact.
Other Non-Toxic (PFAS-Free) Baking Sheets We Considered
OXO 11413800: left out because we could not confirm its PFAS-free claim from OXO, and a listing for a related OXO set mentions PFAS added to its nonstick coating.
Vollrath 5314: uncoated, but it costs more than our winner, testers saw warping, and we found no explicit PFAS statement.
Great Jones Holy Sheet: the maker says only that it is made without PTFE and PFOA.
Chicago Metallic 49813: out of stock on Amazon, and America's Test Kitchen found it sat unevenly and popped in the oven.
All-Clad D3 jelly roll pan: out of stock on Amazon and expensive, smaller than a half sheet, and it warped above 400°F in ATK's test.
Wildone and Teamfar sets: smaller than a half sheet with little or no independent performance testing.
360 Cookware and de Buyer: hard to find, not fully rimmed or smaller than a half sheet, and the de Buyer needs seasoning.
FAQ
Is an uncoated baking sheet really PFAS-free?
With no coating on the food surface, there is nothing that would contain PFAS. Nordic Ware also states its Naturals sheets are made without PFAS.
Do I need parchment with uncoated pans?
Usually yes. Testers recommend parchment, foil or a silicone mat to prevent sticking and ease cleanup.
Is ceramic nonstick PFAS-free?
It can be, but check the maker's wording. Caraway explicitly says its coating is made without PFAS and publishes lab results. Ceramic release also fades over time.
Is aluminum safe for baking?
It is widely used. Nordic Ware notes that aluminum reacts with acidic foods, so line the pan when cooking tomatoes or citrus.
Can I put these in the dishwasher?
Hand washing is recommended for most picks here. Hestan retailers disagree on dishwasher safety, so hand wash it too.
Which size should I buy?
A half sheet fits most ovens. Choose the 21 x 15 inch Nordic Ware only if your oven and racks can take it.
Bottom line
For most people, the Nordic Ware Naturals half sheet is the answer: no coating, even browning, a sturdy rim and a modest price. Pair it with parchment and you give up very little. If you want release without parchment, the USA Pan nonstick sheet is the best-tested PFAS-free choice. Choose the extra-large Nordic Ware only if your oven fits it, the uncoated USA Pan if you prefer a steel body, Caraway if published lab results matter most, and Hestan if you want a pan that will not warp and can pay for it.
